Paige did one small project for a friend of mine and did a great job. That led to offering him a second and slightly more involved job. He accepted, provided a quote, and was given the money to buy materials. On the spur of the moment, my friend went ahead and decided to pay him for the labor too since the first job went so smoothly. Both parts and labor were paid for with checks, so my friend has copies of those along with the handwritten quotes and agreements that Paige wrote out and signed. He also has the original texts exchanged between him and Paige, which are now also transcribed into a document.
That was the end of March (doing the first job) through the middle of April (providing a quote and getting the money for materials and labor for the second job.) Since cashing the checks, Paige promised on multiple occasions to show up and do the work. There were excuses every time. How legitimate any of them were is anybody's guess. After missing his last promise to do the work (April 27,) he was told to either show up the following Monday to do the job or return the cash. Not a peep out of him since then.
The phone number my friend has for him just rings (update as of June 26 - now the call just drops, no ringing at all) - no pickups and no voice mail. A lawyer is now involved, but it would speed things up quite a bit if there was a current address where Paige could be served.
If it helps, I'm told his wife works at a beauty salon somewhere in the greater Montgomery, AL area. The couple also supposedly attends/used to attend a Bible study at a local church, but I have no idea which one.
Any information you have would be appreciated. And if you are currently in the middle of negotiating any home improvement project with Paige, proceed at your own risk. At the very least, buy the materials yourself and don't give him a penny until the work is completed. My honest advice is to tell him to get off your property and find someone else to do the work.
