I was hired by Eric hull and Rick MacInnes as a project manager in early February of 2016. I was told that the company was going through a major turnover and there are lots of projects that are incomplete due to the turnover. Nobody in the office had an accurate project status, yet Eric has been there for sometime now(almost one year) I was told that was going to be part of the job. I didn't mind the challenge, but It was a bit odd that no one knew anything.. My job duties were never given to me, Eric told me that I don't need to worry about "paperwork." I was told to start by going out to the first project and see what's wrong with them. No address was given, no contact. I went into the whole thing blind. Project after project. Lots of angry people that said " no one from KCI answers phone calls, emails or voicemails." I had about 15 projects to tackle. I was told that they were all a priority as well. This is the best part(I didn't have a single technician) I was told that we had 7-10 "technicians". After talking with some of them at the office and on some jobsites, I quickly learned that they had zero experience as a security or Audio video. They were former satelite dish installers and others were just picked off the street. They had no tools. Literally, no screw drivers, no crompera, no wire connectors, no level, no tape measure.. I'm not exaggerating. But with all that said, Eric told me that I could use these guys anyways because they were already allocated to other projects. I put on my tool belt, and started visiting customer and started to figure out where KCI left off. After about a month, I was up to speed. All the customers were happy to see me each time I came out to their sites. They greeted me and knew that I would spend a couple hours on their site and take care of a few major issues with each visit. Every site visit, I hacked away at the incomplete items that the customer pointed out. I forgot to mention.. In the meantime, Eric still has not given me any formal or even casual company policy's, expectations, vendor lists, supplier lists.. He is never reachable on cell, text, email or in person. He is never In the office, and never on any of the job site that I went on. I'm sure he shows up here and there, but from all 15 customers, they tell me that they don't see him at all. And some have never even met him, so that's a bit fishy. As time went on, I've begun to close some projects and all the customers were happy to see KCI finishing up. Some are over a year past due. So to wrap it all up, today I was called into the office and they let me go with no explanation. I was only told that "its not working out". I asked over and over what that meant, but no answer. Its been only a short 2 months, and I've been able to complete 3 projects and only minimal items left at the other 12. I have full notes on what remains and planned solution(which Eric strategically got from me before he told me the news) which was already scheduled to be complete in the next two weeks. All parts have been ordered. I have also sold some small security adds(projects) in the short 2 month at KCI which more than covered my own salary for the 2 months that I worked there. I've been a one man manager/designer/installer/sales rep. And I'm told that "its not working out." Its a shame that one person works so hard, works overtime, goes beyond job responsibilities just to put food on the table and another can just snatch it out of your hands and smile. At this point, Eric is on track for completing the remaining projects in the next two weeks(with my effort) and will probably get a gold medal for "his hard work in completing the projects" while I now need to go home and tell my pregnant wife that we are out of a job 2 days before mothers day. KCI is a bully. On a side note, in the two short months of employment, I had paychecks missing and had to wait almost a month for my expenses to be approved from when using my personal credit card to buy hardware to complete projects. I called HR, accounting and numerous other higher management and no one ever picks up the phone or answers my emails. It's just a terrible place to work. I don't know how else to put it.
