About 7 years ago the owner of this company phoned me. She never me met, never checked references or teaching certificate. I was offered $50,000 a year and no benefits. She was obnoxious, and argumetative. Apparently if she was phoning me from Manhattan I don't think she can do a very thorough job. Fast forward a few months. I accepted a job at a local school myself. We had a shortage of teachers due to maternity leave. My school had contracted with KES to find staff. The first teacher who had been fired from the School District of Philadelphia started arguements with students and teachers. He thought he was entitled to his job. He had no classroom management skills and worked a 2nd job.
Eventually he insulted a student in front of that child's parent. I beleive my school dismissed him because they knew they would be sued. 2 weeks later a new temp worker rolls in. She was not credentialed in PA but somehow got the job. She wanderd around chatting, talking, and texting on her phone. The students and teachers both told me she had no experience at all with older students. She knew nothing about high school level classes. Parents often complained to me that she was unprofessional and should be working at a fast food chain. I left on maternity leave and eventually started looking for work. I didn't know that the ad placed was for KES. The recruiter lied to me, stating that I could easily take a
position in a private school teaching an elective. I don't hold a certificate to teach art or gym. When that didn't work out she called me 6-7 times a day. My father was in the ICU dying and I asked to PLEASE leave me alone. 2 days later a new recruiter called. A few weeks later another one called. I was trying to deal with my dad dying. It is incredibly disrepectful to not honor someone's wishes when a close family member is dying. This kept going on and on until finally I said, "If I receive any more calls I am suing for harrassment." I placed a resume on a website for employers to contact me. I had to remove the resume because KES bothered me 3-4 times a day. When I emailed them to please leave me alone the
response was, "You posted your resume online! What do you expect?" A few months later someone called again asking if I could fill in on an emergency basis. They lie to teachers and make them think that these are real jobs. I was told I could receive a salary that was comparable to public schools. I would be making $65,000 at a public school. This is a temp agency paying $100 a day with no benefits. New teachers in Camden start out at $48,000. What is going on is that schools are paying this place A LOT of money but you as the teacher won't see any of it. As a former human sercice temp worker I have deeply regretted ever working for a temp agency. It does not look good on a resume. Temp places will lie and tell
you that this is a year long job and 2 weeks later you are done. If for some chance a school ever does want to hire you they will have to pay upwards of $5,000 to break the contract you have with KES. They never even met me and they sent me off to a school to interview. If you have a teaching certificate in the tri state area you do not need to go through this place. The person trying to recruit you gets paid if you sign up. They do NOT have degrees in education and have absolutely no idea what the state requires. If you are a school administrator looking to use KES, think again. Someone who would be an excellent teacher is not going to work for a seedy temp agency. Also, they have been known to employ teachers who no longer have valid teaching certification and tell you they are on an emergency cert.
