The owner of the June Lake "Chalet" in June Lake, CA cancelled our reservation the day before we arrived. We replied in a text, "We would appreciate any help you can offer to help us find another place," which to any reasonable, unbiased person means, "Let us know if you are aware of another opportunity that we might consider."
Instead, she reserved, without consulting us, a very trashy hotel and refused to refund our money. We took many pictures of the hotel to show how absolutely horrible it was. (Check out reviews of Ventura Grand Inn in Mammoth Lakes, CA). We had paid her more than $200 for her "chalet," which was represented by nice pictures of the property and surrounding area, so we now believed that we had been switched from a beautiful property to a trash heap. It was so bad that tried to find any other room in the Mammoth Lakes area, despite that we would pay more money. Unfortunately, Mammoth Lakes is so popular that we simply could not find another room. We would have preferred a tent over the Ventura Grand Inn. It was scary, uncomfortable, and gross.
The owner of the June Lake Chalet defended her position in a text by stating that the two properties were "comparable," which didn't make sense to us since we had seen the pics she sent of her property, and we had seen the Ventura Grand Inn.
However, the next day, we drove by the June Lake "Chalet" to see what it looked like and we understood why she stated that they were comparable. The "chalet" was no chalet at all. It was more of an apartment-type building with units. The building was old and not very well-kept.
We are still unsure what her goal was and why she would feel comfortable scheduling us in such a dump. We were also confused as to why she represented her property as being so much better than it actually is.
