Jose Gracia, dba as South Bay Truck, South Bay Yacht Service, BDR Marine, or Gorila Truck Service was hired to repair my 42' Jersey diesel engines. He was referred by another boat repair professional, who believed him to be an honest and ethical repairman-however, this proved not the case. Gracia came across as sincere and knowledgeable in his diagnosis of my mechanical issues, yet he always wanted payment in advance. This would have typically been a red flag for me, but once again, he had been referred by a reputable individual, who since has come to realize he was conned as well.
Each time I believed Gracia was finished with the repairs, he would find a new "problem" that needed to be corrected, like the electrical bonding. Which Gracia never touched, but said it was repaired. After some $25k spent with Gracia, I'm not even certain my boat is completely repaired or sea worthy. His list of excuses, which prolonged the whole repair project, ran from his mother being at death's door, to his almost dying from a stroke.
I realize I did not do my due diligence, and my wife was convinced from the start that he was a crook. I doubt that I'll have any recourse to recapture some of my money, but I would like to get the word out for any other prospective victims of Gracia's.
