Car broke down at a gas station in a very populated easy to reach area. Called Johnny's at 4pm requesting a tow. We were told someone would call and be out in 20mins. The quoted rate was $65 hookup & $4/mile. Waited over an hour no one called or showed up. Called back a second time got the same story that someone will be out. No call. No show. Called again. Finally got a call after 8 that the driver is on his way. Shows up to tow the vehicle 25miles. He hooks the car and tows it to our house. When it is time to settle the bill, he says we will be billed the 'night time' rate which is $195 hook fee and $5/mile. He never indicated a change in the quoted rate before he hooked up the car. We told him we called dispatch at 4pm and showed him the call log from the cell phone. We asked why are we being charged a night rate when we had the call in four hours earlier. He could not even articulate when 'night time' rates start. Just that he was the night time driver and that is the charge.

We complained about the change from the quoted price and he threatened to impound the car. We called management, which was usless. They are all in on the scam, from the top down. This company's business practices are similar to a criminal organization engaging in fraud and extortion. They should be investigated as such. Do not use this company. Even if you are going through insurance their rates are far beyond fair business.

Johnnys towing is a ripoff company saying its $65 and $4 dollars a mile for the 16 mile tow and charging 300 and saying its for driving to me to pick up my car, never mention that on the phone or before loading my car but made copy of my credit card before tow so they just charged me and said"get a refund from your insurance " in rude manner,do not use johnnies towing, they're lyiers and bait and switch, all the positive reviews on their website are from friends and family, check out Internet for real reviews,

On Sunday 05/15, I got my car stuck in a moderately deep area of mud on a small off road trail in Aurora. The trail led back to a field that had collected a lot of water from the rain the week before, which was unexpected. Lots of dry area and a good amount of mud in a few spots. My vehicle got stuck and I needed a tow company, so I Googled "off road towing" and Jonny's was the first advertisement that came up.

They told me a driver would be there in 45 minutes. He showed up after and hour and a half with a truck that was not suitable for the job, so we waited another hour for another driver to come with a smaller truck that could drive out the ~150 yards to my vehicle in order to pull it the necessary 3 feet to get it unstuck. He did so using the snatch method with chains, which is incredibly unsafe, and doing so put everyone there in danger of injury by putting far more force on chains than they were rated for. Luckily, nothing bad happened and they got my car unstuck. I was then able to drive myself out of the field after being pulled out of the mud.

Getting the car unstuck, our vehicles got fairly dirty, so the driver says "Follow me over to the car wash and we'll settle up over there." Once we pulled in, the first driver came to my car and said "I forgot to write down your Driver's License number, I need your license again." I handed it to him, not suspecting that he was taking it for the purpose of ensuring that I wouldn't drive away when the price was given for the service. Until this point, there had been no mention of the price tag for the service provided, however their Google ad stated "$65 tow!" I was aware that it was going to cost more than $65, however I was in shock when the driver said "Alright, that'll be $3,100. $2 per foot times 1,500 feet and $100 for cleanup." He said this with a completely straight face... I was absolutely flabbergasted when he said the price... $3,100?!?!? Are you kidding me???

They had taken my credit card information by phone before they would even come to the job. This company is breaking the law! In Kane county, tow truck drivers are required by law to disclose a written price for the job before touching the vehicle, as well as obtain a signed disclosure from the customer that they have given the customer all information regarding their rights in the state of Illinois.

I called 4 other tow companies Monday morning for quotes on this job, all within the range of $125-$450. Please, everyone looking for a tow truck, be advised this company is PREDATORY, UNETHICAL and will LIE, CHEAT and STEAL from you. Read my experience and hundreds of others that are documented online here. The prey on customers using false and misleading advertisements on Google. They pay to be in that spot on Google, just because they are on top does NOT mean they are the best.

Scam, Scam, Scam!! Do not call this so called company. They are liars and cheaters. They gave me a quote to tow a car that is being restored, quote on the phone was $65 to put the car on the flatbed and $4 a mile to tow. Had to call them multiple times to make sure they were coming, they where two hours late and trippled charged me. They won't come out until you give them a credit card. When I received my bill they charged me $195 and not $65 to put the car on the bed, charged me an additional $195 for winching (which they never mentioned on the phone those charges) Instead of $4 a mile they charged $5 and added additional miles to the bill. When I tried to contact owner or manager he promised to call me back but never did. This company is the worst of its kind. Stay away from these crooks.
