Mike Jonkins the coach and owner of this organization actively pursued my 10 year old son to play for his team after seeing him during a camp that he conducted. On more than one occasion he reached out to me to tell me he "really needed" my son to complete his 10 year old team. After a couple of months of pressure from him, I reluctantly agreed to allow my son to play with his organization.
My first impression of Mr. Jonkins after observing a couple of practices was disappointment and shock in harsh and profane language he used to speak with such young players. Even my son was upset frequently by the bad words that he would use.
Secondly I was unhappy with the level of practices required for the boys on the team. Often the team would practice more 3-4 times per week with the practices lasting for more than 3 hours each going into the night past 9pm.
Thirdly I was surprised to learn that the team had 15 players on the team. When Mr. Jonkins begged me to allow my son to play he gave the impression that he needed him because he didn't have enough players. Turns out he simply wanted another player to pay $150 per month in coaching fees.
After the season began to my dismay my son was not put into the games and played less than any other child on the team. When we questioned him about this he said that my son was not enthusiastic enough during practice. However during these practices I'd observed Coach Mike Jonkins pretty much ignoring my son to favor the boys that had been playing with him for a longer period of time.
I expressed my concerns about the playing time and was assured by Mike Jonkins that my son would play. However after 4 tournaments and approximately 15 games played my son only played a total of 4 innings and had 2 at bats. When I asked Coach Jonkins for a partial refund of the nearly $1000 paid to him and his organization for coaching fees, uniforms, field fees, etc. He initially agreed that I was due a refund....however when the day came to provide the refund he stopped responding to all correspondence.
My recommendation is to only allow your kid to play for this organization if you want to line this coaches pocket and have you kid cursed out on a regular basis.
