About a month ago I took a flight with Jetstar to start my new job overseas. I was in Australia at the time and my visa had run out, so I had a one way ticket. At no point was I prompted to purchase anything else along with my ticket despite getting a one way international seat.
When I arrive at the airport (a good two hours before my flight) I am told that I'm not allowed to have any suitcases. Not that I need to purchase something, they're just not allowed. I would have to leave everything I owned in Australia and never come back for it. When I told them this was not possible they referred me to the customer service section.
Here, they were rude to the point that I started crying. And they told me they didn't have time to deal with someone this emotional. Eventually they told me that check in time closed anyway and I was not getting on my flight. Oh, by the way, no refunds. Again, I was literally not allowed to stay in the country!
I was forced to buy a last minute flight costing 3x the amount I would have paid if I went with another company before the flight. Because of this I literally was unable to pay my rent (I am bouncing around friend's houses now literally homeless), my phone has been cut off, and I am about to lose my job because I can't afford the commute. I have been sick countless time from eating food that has gone bad because I can't afford to buy anything else.
When I contacted the company with this story they said "Sorry you missed your flight. You should have been more punctual." Showing that they didn't actually read my email at all besides the point that I said I didn't get on a flight.
I could even send them proof of my overdrafted account and my bounced phone bill if needed, but nope, they hold no responsibility.
This is the worst company I have ever dealt with and I want everyone to know what a scam these flights are and how horrible they are to their customers.
