In June of 2014, we rented a 4 bedroom house at 7222 Pine Barrens Ave in Las Vegas, Nv 89148. We have rented from Mrs. FOLEY before and lived at her house next door and so we knew what the house looked like. We were currently living out of state. It was in a very nice area of town and in a new neighborhood. We paid for June's rent and July's rent just to secure the house because she said it would rent fast, but we didn't move in until August 14th, 2014. We obviously paid the deposit in full too prior to moving in. When we arrived, it was 109 degrees that day and the AC was broke. The house was infested with cockroaches at some point and the exterminator left this thick and sticky substance everywhere. It was down every wall, every window, every surface. It looked like yellow paint was poured everywhere. It would not wash off. Dead roaches and their feces were everywhere. The drawers and cupboards in the kitchen and bathrooms were covered in them. The floors were a mass graveyard. The hot water tank needed to be replaced and the oven didn't work at all. Garbage filled the backyard and garage.
The house was an absolute disaster. She offered to give us a few bucks to clean and make simple repairs. She paid us $72.00. However we had to wait for vendors to come fix the hot water tank, the oven, the microwave and ac. We had two kids and animals and they all suffered from the heat as we had been living in cooler weather for the last few years. I had to ask her to rent some portable ac units but she tried to get out of it and made excuses that she couldn't find any. I found a business that did. She only rented 3 to go in a 4 bedroom home. The living room area alone took 2. We were without ac for two weeks. She refused to offer us any reduction in September's rent. She had 2 months to have this house ready as we had paid the rent for those two months before we moved in.
The HOA was giving us notices about the painted driveway and chipped paint around the windows. These things were not our doing or our responsibility but she tried to make me deal with them. I am a business owner and needed the house to conduct a photography business, but it was in such poor shape I couldn't bring clients in and this affected our income. November's rent was a week late. On December 1, Jeanne called us and told us that if the rent was late again, we should just move. I was disgusted by her attitude aftar all this and her comments as the law allows a 3 day grace period. So I paid the rent and gave her a 30 day notice to vacate. It was a month to month lease. The house was left clean and in excellent shape since we cleaned it and made most repairs after moving in. I have pics and video of the day we moved in and moved out. Also there was a water leak that we were unaware of until we got our first water bill. It was $400.00. She refused to fix it. I reported her to the Water District. She never did give us our deposit back. I have made several phone calls and written letters to no avail. She owes us $1350.00. At the very least. Jeanne Foley has proven to be a total slumlord. Do the right thing and give us what you owe us.
