JDM Engine Depot Reviews

  • Dec 23, 2021

On December 11th we ordered a motor for a Toyota. The engine arrived promptly to Colrado and I transported it to New Mexico where I have a retired mechanic friend with a shop. I am also a retired mechanic. On placing the motor on an engine stand and begining inspection we found that the motor would not rotate by hand, We pulled the spark plugs and found water in the cylinders. On draining the oil we found conciderable water in the oil. Lots of water.

I took pictures of the water in the cylinders using a scope. I Called JDM Engine Depot and sent them the pictures as they requested. I called a second time and verified that they recieved the pictures. I called a third time that day and after a lengthy telephone run around someone finally answered and said the claim was denied and all further corrospondance had to be done by email. I emailed several times and made a short Private Youtube video which I also sent them both by email and by facebook messenger. I recieved no reponce.

On the following Friday I tried to call and got a telephone run around and I finally hung up. On Saturday I called again and got no answer. A couple days later I decided to tear down the motor to inspect it and see how bad the damage was and if I could rebuild the motor. I found massive damage from corrosion. About that same time I recieved a message from JDM Engine Depot stating the water was from a pressure washer and the engine wouldnt rotate because of the flywheel bolts.

I responded talling them the engine was junk and we wanted a new one. The flywheeel has to be off the motor for it to fit on an engine stand so it was not on the motor when we were doing the testing. We found a large amount of water and corrosion inside the heads and valley of the engine. The piston rings were stuck from the corrosion and there was mud inside the oil pan and oil pump. I had the heads looked at and they may be beyond repair because of the abount of corrosion. A few days after that we decided to stop payment on the credit card which was succesful.

After that JDM responded with an email asking what was wrong with the motor. and a second email asking who gave me persmission to take it apart. Why couldnt they bother to follow up when I first contacted them rather than waiting? Any reputable business would have been all over this. Within the first few days of finding there was a problem I discovered many instances in which they have done the same thing to others. JDM Engine Depot had an F rating on the BBB and a 1.1 out of 5 rating on Yelp. Here is my public youtube video for all to see just how bad this engine was. https://youtu.be/Bz1lks6rwhQ
