JD Solutions contracted with us for a $36,000.00 Metal roof, vinyl siding, and deck/patio cover job in July, to be complete by End of August. They took a deposit, did about 30% of the work and requested their 90% progress payment plus an additional $1200 for some material they said they left out of the contract.
At the fast rate they were initially working, I was happy to give it to them. JD then requested the final 10%, citing personal hardship. I gave it to him because apparently, I'm an idiot. After getting the money, they bailed. They left the roof open and it rained and flooded into our kitchen badly, twice.
They tried to install the metal roof over bare wood with no tarpaper but I caught them. They started installing the patio covers without pulling permits, and improperly, using 2x4s. When we mentioned it, they removed the patio covers and smeared tar to prevent further leaks, but then left and left the roof open.
The vinyl installation they did do is awful and incomplete. It has been 3 months and JD just told me on the phone that he has financial hardship so he won't be coming back to finish the job. They left us with no decks, open/exposed roof - the birds are nesting in the roof and tearing out the insulation.
Never - Never - Never hire this person or if you do, you have been warned.
After this contractor tried to extort more money from me and we ended up in a fight, I had several other contractors look at the work and it all has to be torn out. He has no idea the correct order to put the materials down and actually put the red guard under the hardiback - it goes on top! There is not water proofing under the floor where thinset was supposed to be put. Any water will destroy the wood floor. The curb they put in is only 2 boards tall and needs to be and waterproofed. They put red guard on raw wood which does no good. The list goes on and on but bottom ine, all; the work will need to be jack hammered out (they put the rubber membrane down on the floor with no slope under it, that will only pool water) and the drain is now going to be lost in the demo and that drain was $100.
He will give you false documents showing his insurance and according to the insurance company, he was cancelled as his policy was for a landscaper in Nevada. If he has Idaho insurance, he never provided proof of it. His as says he has $2 million in coverage, BS! He created a huge water leak and it took 4 days for anything to happen as far as clean up goes so then it was a huge mess. This is gross neglience as he was fully aware of the problem but did nothing to dry it out. I am the one that got a celanup company in and they told him if he had taken care of it right awy, no sheetrock damage would have happened. As it is, half of te downstairs celing had to be removed. Now I am havingmy insurance company take care of it and they can go after him.
Do not be fooled by his apparnt intrigrity as it turns out he has none. The insurance company told me they were happy to loose him as he had too many problems paying for it. Never give him 50% up front as he will try hitting you up for more before the contract conditions allow it. Then he will pull the "I am not coming to do anymore unless you pay me the rest up front". That is extortion and breach of contract.
