Received a competitive bid that I accepted. The rate started at $5.50 per foot but went down to $3.00 when I said no. Should have been the first alarm.
Installers were leaving as I came home from work. As I looked it was obvious that one spouting run was horribly wrong. Anyone could see it was slanted away from the downspout. I had over 100 feet of garden hose in the yard but the installers didn't use it to check for level. I did. Of the 7 runs to downspouts, 4 didn't drain and had standing water.
Called the owner who proceeded to blame me for not checking the work of his installers. Grumpy as hell and nasty to me. He said they eyeball it and then come back later and fix any problems. I was stunned.
Owners son came to fix it a few days later. When I asked him about the owner's people skills he said his dad was over 70, like that made it OK. My mom is over 80 and has never been that rude to anyone in her life. As I was standing on the roof with him I showed him how many of the gutters stuck out over the edge of the roofline. He said industry standard was 1" over. He went and put his finger on the overage and noticed it was way over 1". Then the "industry standard" suddenly became 1 1/2".
I measured all the overages and they ranged from 2" to minus 2". Simply sloppy installation. I'll pay someone to come and cut off the ends and fix them this spring. There is no way in hell I will have these guys on my property again.
