So I went to my local Jackson Hewitt office yesterday with my W-2 to file taxes. I did a pre-approval for a loan against my refund that was in fact approved for anywhere between $750 to $1300. i dont make a lot of money, so this offer was VERY attractive to me.

Normally i do my own taxes for free online. Never would i pay almost $400 to have my taxes done. I thought, "It's been a rough year, so why not?" I needed the money.

So i went in and sat down to do my taxes. I was "Pre-Approved" so i thought i would be getting my loan within 2 hours of filing. At least, thats what i was told. Could not be farther from the truth!

I finished my taxes and left. I waited for the two hours.....Nothing. Four hours.....Nothing. Alld day.....Nothing. So i started making phone calls.

I finally got to speak to a human being who in fact told me that my loan was DENIED! I said "But I was pre-approved for this! How can that be???"

I was told that the pre-approval site says yes to everyone. thats just how it works.

I wanted to yell and cuss and make this person feel awful! I did not do this. No need to shoot the messenger. She just answers the phones and questions. not her fault.

So i wanted to file this report because I would hate to see this happen to someone else. save yourselves $400 and go online and do your taxes for free! There are many sites for this.

In closing, if this has happened to anyone else, I'd love to know! I'm sure I'm not the only one! If you are reading this, please leave a comment and let me know. Good luck to you all and......

STAY AWAY FROM JACKSON HEWITT!!!!!!!!!

Swear they f* up on purpose after that "come get your refund today!" Bulls* Speechless...my husband did his taxes with Nikola H. at walmart on 55th st in rochester , mn. He remembered my husband because he also works at mens tailor shop that did hubbys fitting and the 6 other men in OUR wedding.....6 months ago! And they were talking about it at tax appointment! So why is it that my husband has to go amend his status ? Because some idiotic tax "PROFESSIONAL" MARKED SINGLE. Give me $50 bucks I'll do your taxes, no advance but hey would Hewitt Jacksoni really give one anyway?

The proprietary single employee at this location, Mr. B.F. allowed me to pay 48 dollars to continue having Jackson Hewitt prepare my 2016 return giving me the impression that the $750 advertised instant refund would be approved for me. It was not only denied but it was never verbally disclosed to me that even if it is denied a significant portion of my refund will still initially go to the bank that denied the instant refund for holding for approximately seven to ten business days. This will hold up receiving my full refund for the same amount of time.

So apparently this strange bank in another state refused my instant refund but because I gave them permission to offer me one, they get to collect interest on a portion of my refund and hold that portion for seven to ten business days. WHAT A SCAM!!! When I called Mr. B.F. he refered to the "agreements" I signed. They were the agreements that he asked me to digitally sign with a computer monitor facing his direction that I had to twist my neck to attempt to read sitting on the other side of his desk.

I signed in a hurry and a flurry at his request while other customers were waiting to be seen by him and him alone and he did not fully and completely explain what each page said before signing. You know, fine print and all of that. I think this loss leader instant refund scam and Mr. B.F. s lack of disclosure about the details of mentioned refund scam are shameful. I will never visit this location , let alone have Jackson Hewitt prepare my taxes again.

I went in because they were offering a promotion of $750 up when filing taxes with Jackson Hewitt, then they tell you they can't tell you fee's up front. In the end I was charged more than $500 to file my taxes and I DID NOT recieve the money upfront like they promised and they apologized profusely but, who cares about apologizes when your out $500. What a scam!

I have a very simple 1040-EZ return, Married filing jointly, one job with a healthcare plan is our only source of income. Last year I went to Jackson Hewitt and was satisfied. This year same type of tax return. Last year it cost $50 to prepare, this year $250 on the spot. I asked the tax preparer to call her supervisor. The answer she was given was the price went up because of the "extra forms" (1095-C?) involved with heathcare this year. I don't know if I was being scammed or if the preparer and her helpline were imcompetent.

Today, I filed my taxes at Jackson Hewitt they promote an ad for 750 refund advance saying that is no credit check as long as your refund is above $1,000. My credit is not the best but once I say no credit check I thought why not. I really needed the money on bills and to help with my children. I work but sometimes its hard for ends to meet. My refund was over 6,000. So I knew that I should get approved. They tax prepare lady was really nice and patient. She told me that within the next hour I would receive my gift card and that they will send me a link to apply for the loan. I was relieved and happy because I was really depending on it to catch up on some bills. To file the charged me $329.00 of course I thought it was price was outrageous but I needed the money. I waited an hour later just to be told I was denied . I was more than upset because not only did they rip me off I filed early and chose to do a amendment return becaus I needed the money and they ad they promotes says 750 refund advance, no credit check, and 0% interest. This is a scam to just get you in the office please do not fall for it.

I had already prepared my taxes for free (I used to be a tax preparer) when we were lured by Jackson Hewitt's receptionist which told us of a $750 advance loan and a $50 Walmart gift card. We are newlyweds and new business owners trying to make ends meet so we went in being assured that we would not leave that office without money, the gift card, and it would cost $150 to prepare our taxes. I told her the schedules we would need to file and that's what she quoted us. When Tucker got done preparing our return it was $311 and we left being promised to get a text message. It never came. My husband spent hours trying to access the website to no avail and called countless reps but couldn't figure out the problem of why the American Express Card wasn't working . Finally he thought he would double check our personal information just to find out they messed up his birthdate. When we confronted them with this they blamed us when they had a copy of our I D all along. They gave us the run around promising they would fix the problem. When we called the American Express Card people they told us that our loan was accepted. They advised us to put in the wrong birthdate if we wanted to claim the money. We only had 48 hours to do it. As soon as we did that the loan got denied. We were irrate. Of course we got denied the birthdate did not match the social security number. Not only did we not get our loan, our refund may get delayed and we may get audited. I don't know if I'm allowed to ammend the return myself or if I should continue to wait on Jackson Hewitt to make things right. Our first return as a couple has become a nightmare. Jackson Hewitt's boast on their website for 100 percent accuracy is misleading along with their guarantees and tax preparation incentives. Buyer Beware!
