J Robinson Camps Inc. Reviews

  • Jul 5, 2016

My son attended a 12 day intensive wrestling camp called jrobinson intensive wrestling camp at the Edinboro University. The boys stayed in one of their oldest rundown dorms. My son and two other boys were kicked out of the camp for rescuing a kitten.

The camp was going pretty well until one day the boys went for a walk across campus and found a starving kitten in one of their parking lots. Two of the boys wanted to rescue it. My son didn't want them to but they decided to take it back to the dorm after buying some food for it. When they got back to the dorm they told the counselor that was on duty at the time and he didn't have a problem with it. They feed, bathed, and trimmed off the matted fur. Everything was fine until 4pm the next day. The boys spent their day as usual going to their practices. Myself and parents of the two other boys received calls stating our boys found a kitten that they had shaved and injured. We all found that very hard to believe because we knew how much our boys loved animals. The one boy brings every animal home that he comes across. As a matter of fact they are adopting the kitten. The director that called all the parents told lie after lie and his story constantly changed during the whole situation. In the end he took the kitten to a local cat shelter. After he did that he claimed the shelter was asking questions and holding the camp accountable for the state of the kitten. All a lie. The boys didn't even know they were in trouble until I called them telling them we were on our way to pick them up. Once we picked up the boys we contacted the manager of the cat shelter. She stated the kitten would have died if the boys wouldn't have rescued it, it was starving and emaciated. The counselor used the kitten as an excuse to kick all three boys out of the camp. Just a pack of lies.

We are not sure why the camp wanted to kick the boys out for rescueing a kitten that was on their property. Especially my son because he never touched the kitten. Most people think it's a good thing to rescue abandoned animals. If they didn't like the kitten in the dorm they could have just told the boys that and took it to the shelter. They could have made the boys run extra laps or some other punishment if it was that big of a deal but to just kick them out was wrong. They are kids that did a good deed and got an unusual and harsh response from it. The camp made over $5,000 dollars off these boys and kicked them out. They weren't bad kids or trouble makers.

When we were on the way to pick the boys up the boys called us stating they were scared to go to sleep because 5 of the counselors were coming in their room after bed check time to yell at them and trying to intimidate them. We had to call the office and tell the director what was going on and to let them know our boys better not be hurt before we arrived at the camp. The camp refused to reimburse us for the camp tuition. We were told that the owner would call us but we never heard from him. We later found out he had been in court dealing with accusations of counselors inapproprate activities at the camp. My son will never go to this camp again and I hope this review will save other parents and their boys from dealing with any of this nonsense.
