I recently watched this video which explains many of the ways that J.G. Wentworth rips off its customers. www.RSLFunding.com/RippedOffbyWentworth. My best advice for anyone looking to sell their structured settlement is to shop around for other companies that will offer a better deal. Just beware that J.G. Wentworth has multiple companies under its umbrella, like Peachtree, Olive Branch, and Stone Street. Be aware of what you are getting into so you are not deceived as others have been.
If I could give a 0 I would. I have never in my almost 40 years on this planet delt with any place so deceitful. I was given a pre approval at the beginning of March. With that I found a home to which it was sent through the underwriters and at that point given a conditional approval. I jumped through hoop after hoop. I did everything they asked me to do. In this time I paid $500 earnest money $250 Due Diligence $500 for a home appraisal (to JGWentworth) and $425 for a home inspection. All of this done under the information that I would be approved with everything they asked.
They also wanted me to have a reserve in my checking account of $3000 after we closed to which I had to ask a family member for which to do had to have them fill out a form and get a bank letter stating that they have the funds to cover it. I had to get my deceased ex husbands death certificate and our divorce record. I gave bank statement 4 different times. I had to hunt down a person that worked at a realty company I used to rent a house from. The company was no longer in business but that didn’t matter. I still had to locate an employee that would have worked there at the time just to fill out a paper that stated I made all of my payments on time. I did this.
The impossible but still managed to do it. I've done the impossible for this company. Every hoop they threw at me I did what was asked. All this with the idea that I would have my home loan. A day before closing they come to me and say that my Debt to Income didn’t meet what it needed to be because they were using income from 2 years earlier that was before I got my promotion. I have been in my current position a year and a half. A day before closing after I have spent 2600 dollars getting everything together to get in this house they deny me the loan. Don't trust this company. I'm begging you go some place else.
Remember They had my income information on file from the beginning but wait until 1 business day before closing after they had me pay off a loan I had for $900 appraisal ordered by them $500 Home inspection $425 due diligence $250 and Earnest Money $500. I paid all of this at JG Wentworths request under their conditional approval. I did everything within 24 hours that they asked me to do everytime they asked no matter how ridiculous the request was. Where are my rights? As a buyer. Why don’t I have rights ? How is this OK?
In 2011 i sold 21,981 to JGWentworth for a whole total of 6,500$. In 6 years they say the interest is the difference of 15,323$. I do not agree with this settlement and wish i would have looked into it more. That is 70% interest. This is not right for them to do.in march of 2017 they recieved the full amount of 21981$
Wentworth Loses Key Federal Court Ruling. Court Increases Competition in the Structured Settlement Space.
Another court – this one a federal court in Houston – handed down a ruling that stops Wentworth and Peachtree from its anti-consumer and anti-competitive practices. Wentworth/Peachtree has threatened its competitors for years with lawsuits if "its customers" were approached with a better deal (that is, more money) for the consumer. Wentworth has threatened its competitors across the U.S. Given that a filing for the sale of lotteries and structured settlements has to sit at the courthouse generally for at least three weeks, competitors now have the opportunity make higher offers to customers selling their structured settlements, leading to a better deal for the consumer and a worse deal for Wentworth.
The federal court in Houston ruled – now about the 3rd or 4th court so holding – that a competitor is free to solicit so-called "Wentworth customers" at least right up until the court order is signed – maybe thereafter until it is final weeks later. The filing of a transfer agreement or a contract does not stop the customer from continuing to seek highter bids. Competitors now are free to review and solicit Wentworth customers at will. Wentworth has spent an estimated $1 million trying to shut down these practices; it has now lost.
When i was 20 1996 i went to j g wentworth to get out of debt they offered me out of $12,500, $9000. I was desperate at the time so i took the deal. I didnt know any better and me and my family were pressed for money, i took the deal. The second time 1998 i went back to them as i was trying to help my mom purchase a house. She was going through some rough times and i wanted to help. I had another $12, 500 check which wasnt due for 2 more yrs. Out of the pressure in trying to help my mom i took a deal from them which they gave me around $4,000 out of the $12,500 i was to recieve. At the time i knew nothing about finances and as i got older i feel i was ripped off for that money by j g wentworth.
