IronPlanet, Inc. Reviews
I was sold a piece of equipment that they took a picture of said it was inspected. They put new batteries into it and is dosen't work. As part of a online auction and I was not able to inspect or ask any questions about it. So basiclly I gave them money for garbage.
I've bought several pieces of equipment from Ritchie bros and while I have several issues nothing to get too worked up about. That was until I tried bidding on their other company Iron Planet. I was trying bid on a JCB Telehandler. The auction bid was currently at $47.000 and I bid $48,000, then an instant bid came in at $49,000 and the auction reset for 2 days away again. I waited another 2 days and bid $50,000 and another instant bid came in at $51,000 and the auction again reset for 2days later.
Pissed off I called the auction and the lady acted like she had no idea why this was happening but she would let me talk to the sales center and I could try to negotiate a higher price. I told her no thanks and was really disappointed in this bait and switch tactic. I just waited another 2 days and again as the auction got under 1 minute I bid $52,000 and again the auction reset for 2 days. I found out if you reach the minimum price and you are the only bidder is reset the clock for 2 days and you don't win the auction.
I will never use this auction site again as this is a scam to cheat people into having to bid higher when they should have won the auction.
If you like being in limbo then Richie Brothers, Iron Planet and Truck Planet are your company
It's hard to describe the pain it is to get your title from this company for a vehicle that was purchased 6 weeks ago. I had to go to the seller to ask for a duplicate title but Richie Brothers refused to acknowledge that I purchased it. I had to send the seller all of my documentation to get any help. Richie Brothers must have a massive legal budget because they don't just neglect you. They will get in the way of a resolution.
We would like you to add the following companies to the Top Ripp-off Links list. Iron Planet, Ritchie Brothers, and Sunbelt Rentals.
Sunbelt Rental misrepresented their product that was for sale on the Iron Planet Auction site.
On the 9th of January 2020 we won two individual bids from Iron Planet who were selling for Sunbelt Rentals.
We won two bids Item # 3093082 and Item # 3093281 which are two identical 18ft 2016 Shifta Transfer Coneyers. One had a bad motor which we were okay with. The other had a good motor which we understood. The seller used a phrase stating item was not operationally checked, but if you are in a rental business selling a piece of equipment at an auction you must know the shape of said item being sold. So why did they go to great lengths to misrepresent their product.
We shopped with Iron planet because we seen they were affiliated with Ritchie Brothers whom are a well known auction company. So you would think they would represent the product for what it truly is. Auction company is there so the buyer knows what they are purchasing not for the customer to be decieved. Their viewers rely on auction company to represent product for what its worth.
When bidding on these items before and during the auction not once did they mention these elevators were left under water for some time which caused all the electrical to fail along with the motors. All bearings and rollers are rusted and ceased up.
Seems to me they went to a lot of trouble to take pictures of the serial numbers making sure they didn't show the exposed cut wiring. This is apparently where someone tried to fix it at one point and figured out it was not worth it. We just spent $8,485.40 plus freight fees of $1,500. I feel now all we have at the moment is $9,985.40 worth of scrap metal and two rubber belts.
I mean a lot to were the driver did not feel safe driving off the lot so we contacted Ari Rogers the one that did the deal he told us that he understood and that he would give us another truck so he said there was a truck in AZ we sent our son to look at the truck and the following morning Ari Rogers told us that truck was sold ! when we asked for are money his telling us we are stuck with the original deal of the truck in West Memphis AR! is that possible ?
Ironplanet is a rip off they dont stand by there word, how is it possible they can just take our money like that ?
I recently purchased a Genie s-60 boom lift from ironplanet. The equipment came with the Ironplanet "assurance". Well the assurance said the machine had no leaks, everything functioned as it should, and all the controls worked. When the machine arrived it would not run. We had to pull it off of the truck with a winch. $2000 later we got the machine running. We then realized it had many leaks. Also the controls at the platform would not function. The estimate to fix the machine is $10,000. Ironplanet did not stand by there "Ironclad Assurance" guarantee! This item was grossley misrepresented! This company is misleading and operates under bad business practices. I will never buy there again!
I have been a client of the company www.ironplanet.com for several years buying different types of construction equipment for wholesale, recently I bought another piece of equipment on the May 4th 2017 featured auction, I bought a Caterpillar 908H wheel leader, the description indicated the following, and I quote "The engine started and ran. The drivetrain engaged in forward and reverse but travels in low speed only. The hydraulic system was operational. The brakes and lights are inoperable. The key switch must be held in on position for machine to stay running."
I bought the machine with the obvious intent to have it fixed of the few problems it describes on the condition report, however it was far from the truth, it was a misleading and deceiving information provided, when I went to pick up the machine it had to be winched into the trailer, then at the destination I had item checked with certified mechanic and the initial findings, without further assessments was that "The machine starts and runs.
Does not go forward or reverse. No hydraulic bucket functions, but will steer left and right. "
Basically, I had contacted ironplane.com so they can at least support me on the repairs so I can get the unit ready to sell it and get my money back, they refused, the also refused for Clients to inspect units prior to buying then, they have their own field agents that perform the reports and add the findings to the online auction so buyers can make purchases somewhat knowing the condition on the unit.
It was misrepresented, plain simple a lie to inflate the item value.
