I attended an audition for this company in Hong Kong. My daughter got through and we agreed to go. I stated that because it was the weekend I could not be 100% on my finances but I felt I had to sign then and paid a $2000 US deposit knowing that I was allowed to cancel. I expressed concern and that clause eleviated my concern.
On Monday I looked at my finances and found my savings had fallen and I was not able to proceed as I would fall short. There was a 48 hour cooling off period in the contract so I wrote to them. It stated that they would charge an admin fee of $500 within that period. I wrote with 24 hours later and received a response back saying they would not cancel and that I was liable for the full amount $9499 (originally $9999) and that would be taken from me as per the financial structure I had signed (via AMEX)
The next part is where the problem lies. They said I could not cancel because I received a discount which is true.
I do not believe that discount and it's consequences was explained and I was deceived. Of course I saw it as a discount and wasn't that so nice of them to offer it to me.I believe the offer of the discount was not conducted in a fair manner. The discount was offered. The sales lady filled in the discount slip while I filled in the main forms. She got my daughter (13 years old to sign) She asked me if I accepted the discount. I said yes and she slipped the paper in front of me to sign. She immediately withdrew under the move that she needed to sign. It was than attached it to the other sheets to hand to the financial officer.
It is this piece of paper they now say is waiving my right to cancellation. So the position I am now in is- I can not financially complete the contract nor cancel it. The money will be removed from my Amex regularly until the full sum is paid. I will not be going on the trip even if they discounted it because I am so upset that the terms of the discount voided the contract. I express concerns about not being able to check my financial position on the weekend. I will not be using the hotel etc that I am paying for yet I have no right to cancel/to prevent further payments or receive a refund.
It is presently over 100 days before the event that I am trying to cancel. Furthermore, if I don't pay these American express bills I will default and loss my credit rating so I have to to stay a float. I am in a position of instructing a solicitor in the US. Don't let yourselves be in a similar situation. STOP now before it is too late.
I am not saying they don't match kids with agents and some are luck enough to succeed but they are not transparent and they do not conduct themselves fairly. I now feel held to ransom.
