International Aero Academy Reviews
This flight school will lie to get you in the door. I was quoted a timeframe for a week to get my multiengine and multiengine instructor ratings done. After I showed up they said it would be more like a month. When confronted about this discrepancy the staff said that it was another employee who misinformed me and no longer works there. Now I’m being dragged around by the hope that there will be a cancellation and a check ride available earlier. No one has stepped up to accept responsibility, all anyone has said is that it’s not their problem. I was also told over the phone that there would be a single occupancy room available for me. Right before I was scheduled to come I was then informed I’d be in a shared room. Not a huge deal, since I’d be charged the lower room price. Then my roommate arrives today and I find out he’s doing multi too, and he has a check ride scheduled. That was the last straw. For those who might say my expectations of this school are unfair, I want them to know that I’ve been here before. Back when this school was Tailwheels I did my instrument, commercial, and CFI here. Back then they were on top of things, cared more about customer service, and did things right. Things weren’t prefect then either. It’s tough to run a truly accelerated flight program. A bad weather day or unexpected maintenance can throw it all off for a student. However, there is a difference between not perfect, and not caring. International Aero Academy knew beforehand check rides were not available for the next month but still quoted me a week for two check rides. I’m giving up on this place and going home. I’m also refuting my credit card deposit charge. They’re likely to want me to pay for training already received but I’ll gladly go to court over them for that. If I find the motivation I may also contact the attorney general about their business practices. I would not recommend anyone spend their money at this flight school or take a chance on them. There’s a competing flight school on the field who would be more deserving of your trust. I would say that the way the flight school operates it won’t be in business long, but I’m willing to bet they milk their foreign students and their visas for all they’re worth.
International Aero Academy offers a two-week long flight training program, promising the availability of both aircraft and ground training to remain on schedule and to complete flight training in 2 weeks. They require prepayment for the first half of the training and then provide insufficient flight hours and ground training. The school was not equipped with sufficient aircraft to accommodate the needs of their students as well as to accommodate for routine maintenance downtime.
The flight instructors were also of questionable quality. The instructor that I was assigned was unsure about many of the basic componenets of the particular aircraft that we were training on. Additionally, due to lack of sufficient aircraft we operated aircraft with questionable maintenance problems that other flight schools would ground (e.g. a non-functioning brake).
Training was only available at approximately a 5 week schedule. After reviewing the promised completion timeline versus the actual pace of flight school progression, increased pace was promised as well as contact information for prior students who could verify the ability of the school to complete their training on time. No verification information was ever provided regarding prior successful student training and no refund was offered. This was a gross misrepresentation. This misrepresentation was also confirmed by the flight instructors stated that training typically took 4 weeks and they were not aware of any students completing training on schedule in 2 weeks. As such, instead of the flight hours cost in between $150 and $200 per hour, they averaged closer to $900 per hour.
