International Academy of Design & Technology Reviews
Apr 26, 2018
I am an alumni that attended, and graduated International Academy of Design and Technology (IADT). Unfortunately, I am unable to find suitable employment with my degree. IADT misled me to believe I would be guaranteed employment once I graduated. My degree that I earned is essentially worthless when trying to enter my respective field of study. I cannot get a job in my degree, and I have a huge student loan to pay off. I request legal action to wipe my debt acquired from attending IADT. IADT mislead me to believe I would be guaranteed employment once I graduated. IADT is now under the name Sanford-Brown. They are now located at 8523 Commodity Cir #200, Orlando, FL 32819. I was ripoff and misled by IADT Orlando Florida.
I applied to The International Academy Of Design And Technology in 2012. I was accepted and took out subsidized and Unsubsidized loans to cover my tuition costs. The school is so unrealistically expensive that I had to have my Dad take out a parent plus loan to cover the rest of the costs. I began my schooling in November only to find out one month later that the location I was attending (Nashville, TN) was going to close. I originally planned on getting my bachelors degree there. My very first class there were maybe ten students in attendance. Each week the number of students dwindled. I noticed that the teaching became poorer and poorer as the weeks passed. Teachers became less interested in helping their students learn and more interested in finding new jobs as they all knew in a few years they would be let go.
A teach out occurred a few months after I started school. Altogether throughout my entire experience there I had maybe 6 different teachers. Pretty soon teachers were being let go and full time teachers started teaching multiple classes. My biggest class was ten students and that was on my first day of school. I was the only student in multiple classes because students realized they weren't getting the education they were paying for. I can honestly say that I feel like I learned more from researching my subject online then I did going to classes everyday. The classes weren't challenging. Students could go days without attending classes and they would still pass classes with poor work ethic and even poorer work. After a year I decided it would be best to just finish my associate's degree. Tell me how my completed two year degree costs just as much as a bachelor's degree??? How does that make any sense.
Now, I make less than $16 per hour and can't afford my ridiculous $800 monthly student loans? Yes, there are forbearance options. But, if you pay less on your loans each month I end up paying over $100k with interest after all is said and done. These private art colleges should be illegal. They loure you in with a promise of a bright future but you only end up in debt barely making over minimum wage. I don't feel confident that I had the real world experiences in my field. It is extremely disappointing after going into debt over $60k. How can they do this? It is not right. If I struggle to pay off my loans it hurts my dad since he took out the loan for me. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever pay off the loans. I will probably die before that. And I can forget about retirement, or having kids because I'll never be able to provide for them with these loans. School loans can ruin your whole life...
Good evening. My name is Phoebe Stewart. I attended IADT-Detroit from September 2003-June 2004. I was a fashion design major & felt I wasn't being helped the way administration claimed students would be helped. Our classes were packed, there weren't class assistants as promised, & the instructors didn't know how to instruct, frankly. There was a revolving door of presidents, one being charged with either embezzlement or fraud from his previous employment with one of the local suburban school districts. I became overwhelmed with student loan debt very quickly, as scholarships weren't offered nor were they able to be used at that time, given the school didn't have accreditation at that time. I drive past the former campus on my way to work in Troy & wondered why the building was up for lease &/or sale. I just found out tonight that the school is closed for good. Thank you for taking the time to read this & hopefully we'll be able to come to a resolution against IADT-Detroit.
I've been notified that there was some issues regarding other students being ripped off for payment on classes being charged for things that they did not use. I was charged of roughly $75,000 for an associates degree and charge for things that I never actually received from the school including lAb fees ext. I am currently struggling to pay off those student loans I have paid roughly around $28,000 towards these loans so far. I remember when I signed up they never discussed price they just showed me how to apply for student loans they had a full course on this. Also when you finished all of your classes they gave you a full course on how to pay back your loan never once did they go over cost per class everything you needed to achieve your degree and to try and find the cheapest least expensive way for you to accomplish that they never gave us options or never gave me options for grand or scholarships. I have not been able to get a copy of my transcripts at this point because I believe this company has been shut down. I would like to further my education and I am unable to do so without copies of my transcripts. if you have any additional information for me or anything you need I would be more than happy to provide that for you or whoever looks at this report I am in desperate need of help and can't dig myself out of this student loan full I have not able to get loans for a car or home at this point and I am just in need of help.
I attended The International Academy of Design & Technology in July of 2006. I relocated from Mississippi to Tampa, when me and my mom was on the phone talking to the advisor not once did he state that I had payments that had to be paid at orientaion. When I got there on the orientation day I was told that I had to pay 700 and something plus more for first month rent and for my books.
I left the school because I received a letter saying that I didnt pay my first month rent and that I old money and this wasnt even a month later. I left maybe two or three weeks after school started and not even 3 months later I received mail from them saying I ole the school money and saying i ole Sallie Mae over 300.00.
Remind you that I was back in Mississippi before the school loans even made it to the school. I thought my parents paid for the first month of school, the books and the first month rent at orientation. I would call the school and try to talk to people about the bills that I received they would transfer me and all I ever gotten was a voicemail or told that someone would call me back and never gotten a call.
Attending this school was the worse decision I ever made in my life. They was a bad choice and the dept that now have because of this school is sad.
