Navy Sailor

My son is in the Navy, I have written power of attorney to take care of personal business matters on his behalf. He hasn't had access to his phone since the end of June. He just got his access back a few days ago and the "owner" of this company called about a gym membership he had prior to shipping out. My son called and asked if I could take care of it as I had to taken his orders up to the gym when he unexpectedly left earlier than he had thought. I tried to talk to this man in regards to his gym membership. He refused to speak with me to get this taken care of. He just kept saying we should have taken care of this when they gym called 20 times. I kept trying to tell him he didn't have his phone, the Navy had it. I personally took a copy of my son's orders to the gym when my son left earlier then he thought. We were told it was taken care of and due to leaving for the military they would waive the early termination fee. This man I spoke with at Internal Credit Systems Inc wouldn't even let me speak. Stated he didn't care where my son was or what he was doing, he didn't pay his bill. I tried to explain to him that we had taken care of it but he refused to even listen. Stating he would "call JAG" and they would make sure my son paid his bill. It is deplorable. I asked for his superior he said he is the highest person there, at the gym, and at their corporate office that I could speak to get this taken care of. I have now spoken with the specific gym he signed up at and they have apologized profusely and are removing him from collection by tomorrow. (the collector has apparently already left the office) I did mention to the man I spoke with at Internal Credit Systems that I would be posting online how he is treating our service men and he threatened ME with a lawsuit. I am not sure how posting the TRUTH about what happened can constitute a lawsuit. I will say that both the corporate level of anytime fitness as well as our local gym has been great. Errors happen, they fixed it and its totally fine, had this man paused to listen it would have been cleared up in a matter of minutes with no problem. Luckily I understand how collections work and although the gym sent it by mistake they are not in control of his deplorable and disrespectful business practices. A person less versed in collections would be leaving their negative review on the original business pages, in turn damaging their businesses reputation. He has other BBB complaints from clients I would steer clear from him for collections he will give your company a bad name!

I contacted Internal Credit Systems out of Durham, NC regarding a debt letter that my son received. It was in reference to a debt owed to Anytime Fitness for a gym membership. The representative that I spoke with, Ted Life, was extremely rude and unprofessional. I made it crystal clear in the very beginning of my conversation with him that I was not calling to dispute the debt and would be paying it but simply wanted to find out what (if any) attempts had been made to try to collect the debt before turning it over to collections (i.e. phone calls, letter, etc). He quickly reminded me in a rude and condescending tone that "they don't have to call or contact you". He interrupted me several times . I tried to explain to him that I was not disputing the debt but, because my son is trying to establish his credit I did not want it to effect his credit. He rudely assured me that, it wouldn't as long as I paid it and, for it to have reached his desk, they would have called at least 20 times to try to settle it before turning it over to collections. I asked several times for the number they called and he would only say..."it doesn't matter...what difference does it make...you owe it, so do you want to pay it or not!". Again, I simply asked for verification of the number the creditor had tried to call to reach my son and Mr. Life again rudely interrupted, shouting "It doesn't matter". As I attempted to explain why it mattered - because my son was trying to establish his credit and he didn't want this to reflect on his credit - he rudely interrupted again and then abruptly hung up on me.
