Intelius, Inc. Reviews

The report I was sold did not even have the indivduals name correct. It listed aliases and adresses that I already knew the subject has/had never used or owned. Reports from this company are a complete RIPOFF.

Used the Intelius web site to locate a friend. The charge was supposed to be 1.95

Then I got an email that said I'd signed up for an ongoing service that would be billed at $29.95/mo and if I cancelled now I would be charged $7.95 for cancelling.

I called them and told them I had seen nothing about this when I paid them 1.95.

The rep immediately said OK, you won't be charged anything further. So they obviously know they are trying to trick people into being charged for things they didn't know about.

So if this happens to you, just call them and tell them you don't want to be charged anything even though their email says that they'll charge you for cancelling.

I was doing a reverse phone number lookup when Intelius popped up on my computer screen. They offered a 95 cent, one week introductory use of their service. If I did not cancel at the end of the week, I would be charged $29.95 a month. I plugged in the phone number I was researching and they did not have any information on the number. I promptly cancelled the membership (literally within 2 hours of signing up), and printed up the confirmation. What I didn't see on the website is this:

You will only be charged a $7.95 one-time fee if you cancel your membership and do not use your first background check voucher before 06/04/2019.

This item was at the bottom of the receipt for the 95 cent charge. I used my first background check (or so I thought) and still got charged the $7.95 fee. I called the company and Amanda said that as a "courtesy" they would refund the money charged to my PayPal account this time only. I used PayPal and not a credit card as PayPal sends me an alert for each and every charge made. Be very, very careful with this website.

I got a lookup site called Intelius. They had a low introductory price which was fine, but I could never get to the phone number for an old friend that I wanted to call. They had switched me to another site of theirs that had more services that I didn't want or need. I could never get to the site that I wanted to see and I was totally frustrated.

I then decided to cancel my membership by calling the Phone numbers that they had listed, but only got a recording to go back to the site that I was originally was on to cancel my membership. I follow their exact steps to cancel my membership but their steps proved to be incorrect and made me even more frustrated.

Then I called the phone numbers they had listed...888-445-2727....1-877-974-1563...which only gave me a voice recording which stated the same thing as before. They just drove me around in circles. it's a scam.

I wanted to do a reverse phone lookup then they get my Bank of America Visa Card and it is open Season, on my account, so they made me a Premier Member for $29.95 without my permission or knowledge and I never asked to become one..

I am sick of crooks like these reaching in and taking money from your account. It makes one afraid to ever do business online. They should be put in jail for what they do.

They steal with a pen. They made me a Premier member without my consent which cost me $29.95 Intellius.com

I recently had a phone number that kept calling me. I googled it and Intelius came up advertising accurate records. I went to it and for .95 I could do a phone search. So I did, nothing came up but a bunch of garbage. No more than I could have got from Google itself. That was 6/22. On 6/23 I cancelled account and thought that would be the end of it. Nowhere did I read when I did the search that I would be charged more. I received an email that my account would be closed on 6/28, but in their "dashboard" on my account, it said, Account is closed, please re-activate this account to use. I didn't understand the difference and why the email said it would be closed later. Then on 6/29 I received an alert that my credit card had been charged 7.95 at 5:10 am that morning. I go sign in to see what is going on and Intelius had charged it. I resputed it with paypal right then, then I sent an email to Intelius. I just received an email back today 7/1 that I needed to understand there would be a charge of 7.95 for the 7 day trial period. I never signed up for no trial period!!! I only used the single .95 search. I came here and I am finding all kinds of reports on this. Tomorrow I am calling my Credit Card company and disputing the charge with them also. this is definitely a ripoff. Evidently they have done many people this way. I will not pay this if I can fight it and get my money back. The Attorney General for my state is next.

I used this firm in the past for a number of searches to obtain addresses for individuals and paid $.95 cents for a search. My last contact included this charge, but an additional $7.95 for an introductive period to their Premier Service which I did not order. Within 4 minutes after getting their email adding this charge I cancelled the service. They explained that this time when I ordered the identical report somehow I ordered a monthly service at more than $30.00 per month which I did not. I suspect there was some wording involved that provided such a charge but I did not see it. I found the $7.95 charge on my credit card statement and immediately contacted them requesting credit for the $7.95 charge, and they refused to honor my request. I contacted my credit card company after checking out this firm and finding many complaints similar to mine and the credit card company gave me credit. Any purchaser of their service needs to be alerted to any similar situation and be on guard about their practices of adding charges for services not ordered.

I did an internet search for numbers calling my cellphone that I did not know.

I did a reverse search with Intelius.com, which claimed to do a search for 4.95,

then for a dollar when I did go for the 4.95....I did two searches.

and was billed for 29.95 per month. They have refused to refund. after

I was notified by PayPal several days later.

I purchased a Vehicle License Lookup for an accident I was in a couple of days ago. As of 07/13/2017 the home page says

"The most accurate and updated information from billions of records" but this was simply not the case as the telephone number was disconnected and the email address doesn't seem to exist. You pay $2.95 but unless you cancel the automatic membership of $29.95, you will be charged another $7.95 in seven days.

I did a Google search for and address. Intelus people search add pops up , claming they can do a reverse lookup.

They advertise , the cost is only .95 . or $ 7.95 for a one week pass. What they don't tell you untill after they have your credit card number is that each section of the report has a seperate fee. I wanted past addresses for a person. They showed that there were 14 pasr addresses. They showed me 4 addresses and reqested another $4.95 for more addresses. I did not pay it as it did not state how many more they would give me for the additional charge.

I called customer service and asked for a refund as they were not giving me the information I requested for the money I paid. They said they were sorry but they could not refund my money . They offered no other help I cancelled my account.

Be ware of this company. It will cost you a fortune before you get the full report, if you get it at all.

Intelius offers information on people. I wanted the birthday information of an old acqaintances and agreed to pay $3.95. I got the informqation and was charged $3.95 and $19.95. The next month I was charged $19.95 again, and again the next month.

I NEVER agreed to be charge anything more that $3.95 and only used this service once. I was aware and careful to not sign up for any additional services. In my opinion this service operates fraudulently, misrepresenting itself, and surreptitious enrolls customers into services they never asked for.

I called and asked for restitution of the $59.85. The operator tried to sell me other services and which point I pointedly demand that my card be credited for these fraudulent charges. She stated it would take 5 days.

Intelius.com advertises itself as a background checking service. Clearly, if you're doing a background check on someone, you need to accurately identify that individual before ordering the report. I did just this -- let's call the individual "John P. Doe", age 28, Cleveland, Ohio -- but got a report that included information on "John B. Doe" and multiple other "John Does" from various places besides Cleveland. The point is that, while Intelius's reports do seem to include information about the individual you're researching, they also include a great deal of information about persons who may or may not be the individual you'are interested in. This makes information from Intelius essentially useless! Even reading the fine print (which I did), you simply don't learn up front that what you'll be getting is a dragnet of undifferentiated data. If Intelius' internt search strategies don't allow pinpoint accuracy in doing these so-called background checks, the "service" should not be advertised as such.
