IPCW Defective Tail Lights

I ordered these tail lights for my 2003 Yukon Denali XL

I was amazed at how bright they were.Within the first month of installing them I probably had 3 people pull up beside me and tell me that my brake lights were stuck on. So I had a mechanic friend of mine follow me and let me know what he thought.

He explained that the 4 vertical rows of LED's for each tail lights burned extremely bright while the tail lights were turned on. But when the brake lights were activated, only the outside vertical row lit up slightly brighter.

I decided to live with the problem because I liked the appearance of the lights.

But I continued to have people pull up beside me on a regular basis and tell me that the brake lights were stuck on, which I found particularly annoying.

After about 11 months the brake lights on the right side stopped working all together. Unfortunately, my vehicle was in a body shop being repaired from a front-end accident (Which did not affect the tail lights) for about a month and I did not discover the brake light problem until 7 days after the warranty had expired.

I contacted Auto Anything and IPCW and they refused to honor the warranty even after I provided clear documentation that my vehicle was in the body shop during the end of the 1 year warranty period.

Consequently, I basically wasted $240 because IPCW straight up told me that there is no way to fix these lights once the LED's malfunction.

In retrospect, one other pertinent consideration in using these types of tail lights is risk management which is a subject I am all too familiar with (I am a Structural Engineer and I have been in nearly 35 auto accidents, and my business partner is my Lawyer).

Apparently many people can not distinguish a difference in the brightness level of these lights when the brakes are activated. Consequently, the risk of being hit from behind may be greater. You should also consider that normally the person who hits you from behind is ticketed and determined to be at fault for the accident. However, if you live in a contributory negligence state (as I do) then you could be found at fault in a civil law suit.

If you do decide to ignore this review and order these tail lights, as I am sure some people will do, I would advise you to check them every week to verify that they are still working. And contact IPCW the minute they fail.
