I don't even want to give one star. I was having computer issues. I went to the hp website, since I have a warranty, to get a tech to help. Since this was the first site I saw, I believed it was HP. I should have known better when I was told by the virtual agent I would receive a call from a tech person. I knew something wasn't right, but I was in a panic. I let them on my computer. They found an issue after a scan. When I let them know I could not buy the anti-virus software, the tech person got a little snotty with me. After the call, I pulled up my warranty. Apparently I was not on the official HP site! A tech person got on my computer and removed whatever this fake hp site did. I even mentioned why would I be charged when I have a warranty. They then tried to distract me with other things going on with my computer that maybe weren't covered. Then several months later I got charged 14.99 and also a virtual sephora giftcard got charged to my account! I filed a complaint with my service who then cancelled out the charges. I can't believe this company can exist and still commit fraud. Do not ever do business with this fraudulent site using a major brand name to ripoff consumers.
I used the services a couple of times, a had a brand new laptop that had issues since day one. I call these people and they sold me this services, computer kept on acting up. Called them to cancel, they started trouble shooting again, and gave me a $5 discount per month. The computer was acting up no more than 2 weeks later, I know it wasn't anything else than the hardware or software that was messed up when I bought it. This is my 3rd HP laptop. So I called them up a second time, told them I don't want to negotiate I just want to cancel, and they told me that they couldn't do it.That the appropriate department will call me back, I told them that I don't need a callback just a confirmation email stating that it was done. The customer service rep kept on telling me that someone needs to speak to me, when is a good time to be called back in the next 3 days, or to call back on the 25th of the following month when my bill would be due. Tries to convince me of what a great deal I'm getting. I told him I DON'T WANT THE DEAL! I just want to cancel. I had it. I called my bank and put a stop payment. Yes it cost me $30 but I want this people out of my bank account. Never again.
My pavillion laptop's internal wifi wouldn't download faster than 50mbps when my house router gives 1gbps, took techie 10mins to find my account was current but only one to tell me he'd have to do a factory wipeout of the laptop losing all my info before attempting to even look at anything, so basically support is not knowledgeable and lazy just like the geeksquad at bestbuy
I'm a 56 yr old man who up till the last ten years never had much time to spend on a computer, laptop or tablet until i had an accident that left me unable to work any longer. So i bought a 17" HP laptop from HP not a store, and thanks to a wonderful lady in the call center i not only got the right laptop for me but she suggested I sign up with HP Smart Friends & that was the smartest choice i could have made. I can't thank the wonderful men & women that work at HP Smart Friend enough for all the help they have given me. Not only have they saved me from making what could have been the biggest mistake of my life, but they took the time to answer all my questions in a way so that i could understand what it was they were doing. Even when i not realizing i let a scammer into my new laptop they didn't ask me "what were you thinking" instead said, it's ok now that you have called let's see if we can fix this. Then going to work in no time at all were able to undue what i let someone do to my new laptop. In my opinion the men & women at HP Smart Friends not only saved me from a big mistake but they did it without making me feel like the fool i was. Instead kept telling me it would be ok just have a little faith in us. Well i had faith then & I still do & would recommend this service to anyone, everyone & my own family. They did a great job then & still do & if you want protection this is who you want it from.
One day last September I woke up to find I couldn't even get my laptop screen to glow, much less boot the computer. SmartFriend fixed it very quickly so I agreed to pay $14.99/month. This month, with no intervening computer issues, I contacted SmartFriend to cancel. The first person on the line gave me a sales pitch to try to convince me to stay. When I declined, he looked up my account and discovered it had been registered in my daughter's name (she lives 3000 miles away and has never even used my laptop!) and with a landline phone number I haven't used in years (I have only used my cell to call SmartFriend). I asked to speak with a manager after having been on the line a half-hour. The manager again gave me the sales pitch, then offered to reduce the price to $9.99/month. When I declined again, he said someone from his team would get back to me. Three days later a woman Emailed me from SmartFriend offering two free months' service. I accepted and stated I'm going to cancel thereafter. She Emailed back saying I now have two free months!
I signed up for SmartFriend in October, 2019 via a call from my cell phone. The technician fixed my laptop very quickly. He disclosed that the $14.99 monthly charge would continue but stated I could cancel at any time by calling 866-211-5207. In early January, 2020 I called to cancel. The man who answered tried to get me to stay on the plan, then told me the name and phone number on the account were different from my name and cell number. SmartFriend had registered my service under my daughter's name (she doesn't use my laptop, she lives thousands of miles away, we don't share the bank account from which my SmartFriend payments were made, and I never mentioned her name when I registered for SmartFriend). Also, the phone number SmartFriend associated with my account was a landline I haven't used in years!
I am supposed to get a return call this evening from SmartFriend (a) confirming that my account will no longer be debited and (b) explaining the mixup regarding owner's name and phone number.
BTW, if you don't like paying $14.99, threaten to cancel and ask for a manager or supervisor. When I did, the manager offered to reduce the monthly charge to $9.99.
I purchased HP Smart Friend when I went to the HP web site for technical support. Smart Friend for HP appeared, and I assumed, incorrectly, it was part of the company. They offered to help connect my HP printer to my wireless computer for a $90 one-time fee or a $15 a month unlimited fee. When I told the tech that I would be purchasing a new computer before the end of the year, I was told that I could cancel at any time. I received my welcome letter and a document stipulating the terms and conditions. He did help connect the printer, but the next time I went to print, the same problem appeared. I still have to hard wire in order to print.
I purchased a new computer three days ago and called to cancel. The first attempt resulted in my call being transferred to various departments before the call was terminated. The second time I called, I was told that I had to pay a $70 penalty if I cancelled before the end of the year. I read over my terms and conditions, and I told the tech it verified that I could cancel either in writing 30 days prior to ending service or by calling. He told me I didn't have the official contract, as there would be a number at the top, but he offered to send me one. I declined and told him I would not be paying for further service. He "esscalated" my case to a supervisor who would call to discuss the problem. Meanwhile, I blocked this merchant from my American Express auto pay. When the supervisor called - my THIRD time discussing cancellation - he referred me to page 11 of Frequently Asked Questions of their online website! PAGE 11??? This is an irreputable service and a scam. They never even fixed my computer.
I've had HP Smart Friend for six months now & i can't say enough about the kind of service they have provided to me. I purchased a 17" Laptop from HP & only had it a short time when i made the mistake of letting the wrong person into my system. When i called HP Smart Friend & told them what had happened, I heard a ladies voice say " Okay don't worry that's why i am here ". She then asked me a few questions & then said " Okay i understand & I'm going to help you, so take a minute & take a deep breath ". She then went to work & fixed everything. In no time at all she had removed everything that was installed & returned my new laptop to the way it was when i first received. When she was done she explained to me what she had done & assured me i had nothing to worry about. The lady that helped me was very understanding, professional & polite. She never made me feel like i did anything wrong but reassured me everything would be okay. When she finished she thanked me for calling & told me if i ever needed them for anything i should just call & they would be happy to. The level of knowledge & professionalism is very high & no matter what is wrong the men & women at HP Smart Friend can fix it.
Thank you to the men & women at HP Smart Friend for always being ready to assist me with anything i need help.
Of the line computer after having a HP power desktop That kept having problem after problem I contacted hp smartfriend and asked to switch servixe
To my new dell and if that could do that . The tech says yes not a problem , so I gave him the new info and away i went. 2 months of course not one issue with the dell this weekend was having some issues with moving some files and lost files so contacted HP smartfriend since I pay them 19.99 per month . Waited for 13 min guy comes on the line . I tell him what is going on he tells me that HP smartfriend does not work in dell systen and thst I need to
Call dell I explained the website says any computer brand he cuts me off in mid sentence and says that is not true only HP products and asks if there is anything else I need . I was stumped so I guess not. Now trying to reach someone to help is impossible .
I have noticed I was getting double billed since Jan 2017 and when I called smart friend they said I had to pay $70 to cancelled the 2nd account. now I have to wait until a cancellation specialist looks over my request. I believe if you call for service that person signs you up on a new account to get more credits ...
Hello. Yes, I too noticed at the end of the year statements that I was also charged that $14.99 each month for a year or so. I can't believe that this has been going on so long for other folks out there. I noticed that $14.99 charge one time and had my credit card company to stop that payment.
I was not keeping a good look at my statements or I might of caught more of these charges. This is such a ripoff that these people can keep doing this without consent from any one! There needs to be consequences to their actions. Maybe a class action lawsuit might be the way to go to teach these ripoff companies a lesson.
I am glad to have stumbled upon this site to know that others have fallin' victim to this Hp Smartfriend Services or I wouldn't of known about this company ripping off others to be able to put in a grevience about this company.
Sorry to all the people that have been ripped off by Hp Smartfriend Services. I just wonder if every body that got ripped off were using an Hp Pc's to make you think they were lagitiment by the words Hp Smartfriend Services.
These people like to call you up and tell you that you have problems with your computer and that you must take time to fix your computer. Then they scam you by locking your computer so now you have to have them fix it or take it to a geek squad which then now your spending a ton of cash to fix it especially if your computer is more than a few years old.
I have already got hacked by one of those people from India, who can't even speak English, that I finally had to reset my computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10 which I had to buy. factory reset with no programs. I didn't have backup so I lost everything. Now I am totally lost in my PC thanks to these type of ripoff companies and the people that work for them!
Also, I don't know how they got my credit card information. Isn't that fraud on top of what they are doing to so many people. Good Luck every one and hope we get some satisfaction that we all deserve. Thank you.
