Of all the respectable and established care agencies I could have chosen to help me with my move to Canada in January I mistakenly picked Melody's House Calls Vancouver: a new franchise staffed and owned by novices Jyoti Manhas and Sunny Lee, inexperienced 27 & 28 year olds with no background or training in care. Instead in Sunny's words they chose care work to "benefit financially from the rich people in Vancouver with health issues or whose loved ones have health issues who can afford to pay out." And although I am a British immigrant who is far from that having a lowly income of less than CAD$900 a month Disability Living Allowance that is certainly what they tried to do to me, charging my credit card a fortune every 3 - 4 days and when I complained they threatened to remove their services and leave me stranded knowing full well that I depended on them because they were the only care agency in Vancouver who provided male caregivers who were allowed to lift clients breaking all the health & safety rules & regulations in BC. Not only did they charge more than any other care agency in Vancouver raising their initial quote of $170 for a 12 hour night shift and $24 an hour to $200 and $30 respectively, but they also added extras like showers & laundry to the cost that were originally included.

Their staff were dreadful too - one of the night workers slept and snored his way through every shift being reluctant to help me in any way. Melody's House Calls never managed to find me any day care staff so charged me the full amount to come themselves instead, often not turning up on time so that I was forced to pee in the wheelchair and sit there soaked in urine for hours on end. They took me for meals out to nice places like the Cactus Club Café & Boston Pizza which were supposed to be thank you gifts for my custom, then charged me for these!
