Opened a ticket 3 hours after purchasing the service, they had a 72 hour Refund window. They kept stalling and said they will provide a resolution, but just deleted the ticket without any refund or resolution.
I read a post on https://lowendbox.com/blog/hostmybytes-global-pooled-vps-in-los-angeles-chicago-uk-starting-at-2-vps-for-1-50-month/, advertising a promo offer for HostMyBytes, provided by the owner, Jonathan Yeh. I figured I would give it a try, since I was in the market for a VPS. The claim, "HostMyBytes supports payment through PayPal, Credit Cards and Bitcoin. They offer a 30-day refund guarantee to all new customers, so it is fairly safe to try their service," gave me enough confidence to believe I'd be able to get a full refund in the event I'm not happy with the service.
So, not wanting to take a hit on my credit card, I decided to pay $30 in virtual currency, to purchase their 4GB VPS Pool on October 3. However, when I got their service, I very quickly found out they didn't have resource nodes available in Chicago or Los Angeles, as advertised. I could only setup a node in the UK. So, I did, but then realized after writing a support ticket, that IPv6 was not available in that region at the time, which was another key feature in their offer that wasn't as advertised.
So, I went back to the offer page and read all the other comments posted. Someone mentioned that the company has an even cheaper offer available, that would provide an IPv6-enabled node in Los Angeles. So, I signed up for that using a credit card, also on October 3. Initially, that node functioned decently, and I figured I'd cancel the other service, get account credit, and just apply that to the purchase of another $11 node and/or extra time.
However, on October 6, I awoke to see that my $11 node had been knocked offline overnight, and the entire website was giving access errors on every other click I attempted. I was furious, and promptly wrote a support ticket asking what was going on. Meanwhile, my cancelation request for the initial $30 node had not gone through yet, so, I added another reply to that support ticket, asking for some form of monetary refund, because of the issues with the site being unresponsive, my node being knocked offline, and the product I received not matching what was advertised. I was told that I would only qualify for account credit, however. I even asked if they could use my credit card on file for the $11 node, to refund me the $30 for the initial purchase, and they still told me they couldn't do it. I even reminded them of what their offer webpage says about refunds, and they still wouldn't budge.
Thankfully, since I paid for the $11 node with a credit card, disputing the charge with my credit card issuer was painless. However, I'm currently still out the $30 I paid for the VPS Pool service. I filed a complaint against them with the FTC and BBB. As of the date I'm writing this, my complaint to the BBB is closed following a lack of response from HostMyBytes, which is why I'm now posting here. I want my $30 back, in a form that is NOT account credit.
