Based on my realtor's recommendation, I chose them to complete my home inspection prior to purchase. They were to do a thorough inspection including all mechanical items. They failed to inspect certain items but asserted they did. AC systems failed when they were turned on in spring because part of system was not connected. They never inspected that and then have failed to process my claim against their errors and omissions policy.
Services They Were to Provide:
Perform a complete home inspection prior to purchase to identify issues to be discussed/negotiated with the seller before closing. Services were covered under an E&O Policy.
Services They Provided/ Issues:
They completed report but failed to check all mechanicals. They never entered the main attic area so they missed the fact that air handler, air filtration system, and duct work were not connected so they could not work. This was done in November of 2021. We paid a full market price of $1,775 for the inspection.
In the spring of 2022 when air conditioning was needed, we noticed two units did not work. Our HVAC repair group discovered the fact that the systems were not connected and one unit doid not work at all.
We were required to pay just under $3,300 for the repairs that would have been negotoated with the seller had the inspection been completed properly and surfaced the issues.
We requested reimbursement for the work under the vendor's E&O policy. To date they have ignored our claim and have not even reached out to discuss.
The vendor was engaged to complete a thorough inspection.
They did not conduct a complete inspection but charged for it.
They marketed the fact that they were covered by E&O insurance but when we requested reimbursement under the policy, they ignored us.
They are not truthful and they should not be used.
Horrible company!!! I have never seen such an arrogant, incompetent company in my life. I was referred to this company by my real estate agent. They were more expensive than most other companies but I was assured they were worth it. I was still on crutches after an ACL surgery so I was hoping they would do a good job.
OMG, what a nightmare! They completely missed a huge structural crack in the wall, many plugs that didn’t work, sprinkler indexing value/well on neighbors side not mine and bend on my roof in two places. When I asked why they missed the two huge bends in my roof, they complained that they had to come back out and stated their roofing guy didn’t want to crawl through the crawl space to check it out. They claimed it was normal without even checking out the wood underneath. WHAT?! Then they tried to say the structural crack I found later was new yet there was clear signs of repair that they missed. They blamed the sprinkler issues on the surveyor. Oh and even had an excuse for all the plugs that didn’t work. They said that must be new too! Shame on me for counting on a company while I was healing after ACL surgery.
Wow, shame on me for relaying on a company to do their job since I could barely walk and was on crutches. Clearly they like to take advantage of people and take zero responsibility for their failures. Home Team Inspection Services rep Colin didn’t even come over to inspect the huge structural crack in the wall after I discovered it. Now I have to deal with all these issues which are adding up $$$. Home Team Inspection Services offered zero help and didn’t even refund their fee! Don’t walk, run away from this company (IMHO).
MoreI rate HomeTeam Inspection Services 0 starts out of 5. STAY AWAY!!!!!! We had them inspect our new home. I set up an appointment that fit around my schedule as I wanted to be present. I showed up 15 min early and they were already done inspecting the outside of the house.
The issues: 1. Our attic was infested with rats. Home team completely down played the infestation stating there were a few droppings in the attic. Pest and rodent assessment, other than termites, was not covered in the inspection. However, as a decent human being protecting the home owner, you would think they would have mentioned this was an issue. The rat droppings were all over the attic. At the time, I should have looked myself! Once we moved in, we had our pest control guy check it out and he said it was infested. We also had an additional, highly recommended, pest control service come for a second opinion and they emphaitcally stated it was infested and had been for some time. We had them take care of the problem which cost us $1100. 2. There was a soft spot on our roof which the Home team "Master inspector" missed. It is in plain sight and any inspector worth there salt would have identified it. I had the owner, Mitch come out to take a look and he was nothing but rude, intimidating, and defensive and refused to take any accountability for the rat infestation or soft spot. The Master inspector also accompanied Mitch. With Mitch present, he told me that he should have identified the soft spot and that he made a mistake. However, Mitch still refuses to take accountability. Mitch also told me that if he were me, he would leave the roof alone. Well.... after tropical storm Hermine, the roof leaked through the ceiling. We had the roof fixed yesterday which cost an additional $1,700. 3. Other issues, broken sprinklers, a pool heat pump not working, air conditioner problems, 3 toilets that flush 3-4 times continuously, all additional items not mentioned in the inspection report.
Mitch did not take any accountability, but did offer us a refund stating that "in good faith", since he did not meet our expectations, he would reimburse us for the inspection fee. This refund is just for the inspection fee and does not include the thousands in damage we incurred due to a poor inspection. However, if we accept the refund, we are liable to be sued if we say anything negative about the company and we would be responsible for their legal fees. We rejected the refund of the inspection fee as we want to let everyone know what a horrible experience we had so that this does not happen to anyone else.
Our real estate agent referred Home Team Inspection Tampa. I truly believe that Home Team works on behalf of the real estate agent protecting their sale to ensure more referrals. Home Team definitely did not work on our behalf. They ended up costing us thousands of dollars and hours of work. They were in and out in less than an hour and a half for a 3500 sq foot house with a pool. Please, do your research. The reason you don't find more negative reviews on Home Team is because they will refund your inspection fee, but make you sign a legal document stating they can sue you and you will have to pay their legal fees if you say anything negative about the company. I know there is always that individual who just can't be satisfied and goes out and writes negative reviews because they are just miserable. This is not me. These people took advantage of us and I don't want this to happen to anyone else. This is why we refused the $600 inspection fee reibumrsement. $600 is a lot of money, especially when buying a new home. We used up a good chunk of our savings to correct the issues HomeTeam neglected. However, I am not willing to bend my principales to give this company the satisfaction of knowing I will be keeping my mouth shut! They refused to make the situation right and if this happens to you, they will do the same thing! Wesley Chapel, FL is a great community with great people! Please be smart and be informed!
