I am a private in home caregiver/nurse usually working wirh hospice patients. I work full time, over 50 hours a week but needed to add to my work schedule caring for my ailing mother as well. She was assigned, thru Mchenry County Senior Services to have an in home caregiver 10 hours a week. The agency said the hours are to be flex, as needed by the patient. (This means, and i specifically asked, that i can use the hours each week as needed by the patient) Help at Home, are telling me that unless I set a set schedule, not to be changed, I will not get paid. My mother recently had a fall and has several issues happening. Lots of doctor appointments. Every week our schedule is different. Plus, I work 50 plus hours a week with my own patients. A set schedule is not feasible. I often go to her house in the evening so I can be there in the morning when my schedule allows it. My mother won't let anyone but family in her home. So given my options, I used the agency HELP AT HOME, based out if Crystal Lake, IL. (I live on south side of Chicago, almost 70 miles away) I did my required training and set forth to squeeze in time as best as I can to work my regular job and also take care of mom. Help at Home, have repeatedly threatened me almost each week that I won't get paid. Why, because every week there is something else they didn't tell me that is required for me to do. The employee handbook never tells the new employee they are a union shop and union dues will be withheld. Not only withheld, but you are paying dues while on probation and cannot receive any benefits during that period. Then they never tell you they won't pay you unless you write the exact time you call the time in on your pay sheet. If they have the time recorded, why do you need to write it on the time sheet? Then they denied me 7 of 10 hours of my pay because I clocked in in the evening expecting to be credited for 5 hours and clocked out the following day expecting to be paid for 5 hours. They paid me 3. But, their reason they couldn't pay me the 5 hours and 5 hours was that I didn't have a clock in and out on the 1st day and in and out on the second day. Yet, they did pay me 3 hours???? With only one clock out. So does that make sense?? Then they called and left me a nasty message when I put 2 days of 5 hours each day, ON THE SAME PAY SHEET! They will not pay me for any of those hours. The last straw was today, I accidently clocked out 20 minutes early for the full 5 hour day. So I wrote a note, on my pay sheet. They won't pay me because I wrote the note on the pay sheet. This company is beyond bearable to work for. Because of my time limitations I explained I couldn't drive to the office often. I asked if I could fax or email paysheets. If course not. They won't pay me if I fax my time sheet. I have since signed with a new agency. I can fax them my time sheets. I can email my time sheets. I can even do the required in-service via internet. I almost never need to go in to their office. All correspondence can be done electronically. Which ironically, Help at Home claims is ILLEGAL to do so. I've complained to the corporate office 3 times. They are just as inept as the individual offices. Do not use Help at Home Agencies. As an employee you will see your paycheck eaten up by their inadequate rules. And guess what, they still get paid!
