Two days later (Easter Sunday) she asked me again to pick up the kitten that day or he’ll have to go to the vet to be boarded because her aunt passed away and she is leaving the state. I told her I can’t and she said it was ok but then a week later she contacted me telling me that all the kittens from the litter went home now except mine and that unfortunately the kitten had an accident, that somehow it got it’s neck broken when it was playing under a rocking chair as if one of the other cats were playing on it while he was under it. She then offered either a refund or a kitten from her next litter which was due in two weeks. I chose to get a kitten from the next litter.
Over the next couple weeks she did not send updates as often, at one point she said the cat was doing well and was already huge, and then she stopped replying to any of my inquiries. About two weeks after the cat was already supposed to have been due she finally replied and said that the cat was going to the vet and she would let me know what she finds out as soon as she knows. Another week goes by and she said nothing, I followed up asking what’s going on several times over many days without a reply. Finally another week later she contacted me and said she had unfortunate news again and that the cat had a condition called a false pregnancy and is being kept by her vet due to a bad infection. Somehow over almost a month and a half she didn’t know this information until that day. She offered the same options again that she can refund the deposit or I can have my pick of the litter on her next one in which two of her cats were now expecting and would be due in about four weeks. I had already wasted three months by this point on two failed attempts to get a kitten so I requested my money back. She agreed but then said she has no money because her car broke down and had to pay for that and that she could send me a money order when she gets paid next. I reluctantly agreed because I just want to get the money back.
After researching her, which I should have done before I paid her, I found numerous small claims cases against her, suspicious Facebook posts on animal groups trying to buy other cats and contradicting posts of stories that are similar to things she’s told me but with different parts like saying her mom died instead of her aunt. Then I found that one of the small claims cases filed recently was from another person she scammed out of their deposit for a kitten. I highly doubt I’ll be getting my deposit back without filing a case as well, and even that is no guarantee. This woman needs to be shut down. She’s not a reputable breeder, she’s an unregistered backyard breeder. She’s also been reported to the IRS and state now for being unregistered so hopefully something will be done. Stay away from his woman!
