On or around December 17, 2017 my son was working for Head Steel Services, Inc in Portland, TN. The owner, Lewis Head, sent him on a construction job in Pennsylvania. He gave instructions to retain all fuel receipts and toll receipts/tickets in order to be reimbursed upon his return. My son did just that. While in Pennsylvania, my son received two toll tickets for approx $40 each. He also spent over $250 on fuel throughout the trip. Upon my son’s return home, he turned in all fuel receipts and toll tickets with the assurance of being reimbursed by the owner. That did not happen. My son was told not to come in to work for the entire week after returning home. The next week, my son was terminated from his employment for the reason of "not following instructions.” The man who was sent to Pennsylvania with my son as his supervisor only spoke Spanish. This man, as the "supervisor”, should’ve been responsible for the transportation, not my son, who had only been employed with this company for approx two weeks.
My son had to drive his personal vehicle, which is currently registered in my name, as well as spend his own money on fuel. Not only was my son terminated, but no money was reimbursed for fuel nor tolls paid by the owner of the company as promised.
So now I have personally received two toll violation notices from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission in the approx. amount of $160 dollars. When I contacted Lewis Head to explain the situation and request that he pay these tolls, I received the response of, "Better get your checkbook out and pay them then.” I argued that he needs to pay the tolls and reimburse my son for the fuel costs associated with the trip. He replied, "I don’t pay for gas and tolls when my guys take their own vehicles.” So let me get this straight, Mr. Lewis Head... you send your employees out of state to make you money, but they have to take their own personal vehicles, pay for hundreds of dollars worth of fuel, AND pay their own tolls. Where, may I ask, is the benefit of working for a piece of s*** like you? My son spent out more money than he made on that Pennsylvania trip and now I have the turnpike commission coming after me for my license when I wasn’t even the one driving the truck. You are a pathetic excuse for an employer to treat your employees like this and I hope and pray that your company falls apart very soon. Sincerely, One pissed off father!!!!
