I bought a 2004 Monterey 248 used form Happy Days ... I understand used products and warranty etc. But we still paid 25K for this boat and put down a 6000 trade and 1500 cash... Took delivery in April 2015... boat ran fine last season a little more water than I thought was right in the bilge but not major issues at all.. This year I launced the Tuesday before memorial day, ran it Saturday for a few hours parked it in the slip and came back on Memorial day in the late after noon for a run. The boat had 9 inches of water n the cabin and the engine compartment...
Had it hauled immediatley and after a few months of pulling the drive and the engine and transom shield. Once the Transom shield was pulled we found two holes on the upper plate behind the shield that you would nto see unless you pulled it completely off. One side was J-Welded to seal a hole which was leaking and the other side had a fresh hole that broke through the metal.
THIS IS INFO THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RELAYED to the dealer and the new owner me.
I know it does not have warranty but this isn't a broken throttle or kill swich issue this caused the boat to sink!!!!
I asked the dealer (matt) to give me the name of the person who traded it so I can find out if they have had the issue or where they bought it from so I can track it down. The issue::::::: if this was J-welded it proves they KNEW the boat had an issue and the motor, drive and trans shield was out of the boat before. This proves direct knowledge of the issue and a cover up. I did not say that Happy Days did it and covered it up but it is a direct possiblity.. They issued a letter from an attorney saying they have no responsibility.. so now it is not Hapy Days on the water since they sold a defective product that was serious and severe...
Happy Days Boating sold us a used boat and trailer in OH and knew we lived and would be using it in PA. When we went to get the trailer inspected we learned that the trailer they sold us with the boat was not legal to use in PA and had to spend 1K to get it legal. When we called Troy at Happy Days Boating he refused to do anything about it and said he had no idea what the PA trailer rules are which is impossible to believe given the number of boats that they sell.
