A member on here nicely asked Winston what he does to give back to the Philippines such as donating to charity, helping out people living in poverty, etc. Winston then threatened to ban the poster if he asked that question again. Obviously, this is not a free speech forum if Winston bans people for asking an honest question. Winston is behaving like a dictator when he does this. There are other topics that aren’t allowed to be discussed on the Happier Abroad forum otherwise the moderator Steve will ban you, so obviously this is not a free speech forum and Winston needs to stop advertising it as such. Winston is not an honest person is he doesn’t actually allow freedom of speech on the website if he claims he does.
The poster who asked this question also brings up a good point about what Winston actually does to help people. Winston constantly complains and criticizes other people, stereotypes the west, etc. but when he’s asked about what he personally does to actually help he refuses to answer and wants to ban you for even asking. So how is he any better than the people he insults? It seems like Winston just takes advantage of other people living in poverty without actually helping, which is sad because the people living in poverty in the Philippines can use his help. A related person, Mark Davis, who runs Dream Connections, actually helps with charity in Ukraine. Winston needs to learn from Mark Davis that you can’t just be selfish and greedy your entire life and that it’s morally wrong to just take advantage of impoverished people without actually giving something back.
Winston, if you go abroad as a westerner then you have a moral duty to actually help the people and not just visit bargirls, prostitutes, etc. in the Philippines without actually giving anything back to the people living there. Pixel--Dude, aka Steve, is giving warnings and bannings to longtime and valued members that he personally doesn't like yet allows his personal friends on this site to get away with breaking the rules. Steve himself frequently has immature tantrums, insults people, and curses at other members. He also threatens and gives warnings or bans to members who question him because he is abusing his power.
Steve lies and accuses others of harassing or insulting other members yet it's really him and his small group of friends on this site that harass and curse at other members. If you defend yourself then Steve only gives you a warning or banning, but not his friends. If you point out the fact that other members on here that he is friends with uses racial slurs towards other members, insults them, breaks rules, and harass them, he claims that it is "tit for tat" and he won't give a warning or ban to them which coincidentally happen to be his friends. Right.
It is shocking that a brand new member was suddenly made into a moderator and it was never fully explained who this guy is and why he is allowed to abuse his power like this. More concerning is that he has access to member's private information such as e-mail addresses and IP addresses can edit or delete any posts he wants. Obviously, Happier Abroad is not a trustworthy site to provide your information to if Winston Wu literally allowed a random newcomer to have access to all of this sensitive data.
This site is supposed to be about travel, foreign dating, etc. but it's really made up of a small group of rude, disgruntled members who couldn't make it in the west because of their lack of education, mean attitudes, and refusal to learn any skills. It seems like they instead promote taking advantage of people from impoverished third-world nations.
Winston Wu claims that he supports free speech yet this is also the most restrictive forum I've ever been on where the members constantly make threads and polls about wanting other members banned simply because they disagreed with their opinions yet extreme racism, antisemitism, and fringe conspiracy theories that no educated person would agree with (such as the earth being flat) are all allowed. Mainstream sites like Reddit literally have more freedom of speech and fair moderation than this site does.
I also question the judgment of Winston Wu to allow this (a moderator abusing his power), yet Winston ignores anyone who has expressed concern.
I would not recommend this site because I don't feel safe having abusive, new moderators who we don't even know the background of suddenly having access to our private data.
Winston Wu's HappierAbroad site is supposed to be a site discussing travel abroad, but all I experienced was slander and bullying. If you speak out against the members on here who personally attack you and bully you, then you will be the one warned and banned. Winston allowed a new member to become a moderator who is personal friends with several of the members here bully and abuse other members who are not allowed to respond otherwise they will be banned for speaking out against his friends. I was misled into thinking this was a safe space to discuss traveling abroad, but all I got was harassment and bullying and the moderator literally allows his friends to do anything they want while if you speak out against this you will be punished.
This is a horrible site and it really shows the character of Winston to allow this. The truth and freedom of speech are also not allowed to be posted on here because the other members who are friends with the moderator Steven will attack you for it and if you respond back to them you will be the only one punished. Even Steven insults and attacks other members which proves that he is too immature for the job, but Winston literally doesn't care when this is brought up.
Most of the users here are also very hateful, racist, and angry people who are most likely larping about their fantasy lives. Some of them are on here all day, have multiple accounts, thousands of posts, and claim to be alpha males which no one intelligent would actually believe since their entire social life is on this site with the five or so active users it has because these hateful bigots bully everyone else off the site. The site also looks outdated and the pictures and articles are very outdated, not to mention the forum software is so bad that it often goes down for no real reason despite not getting much traffic.
