We trusted this Roof Inspector with a very expensive roof [$50,000] that was newly installed but was having immediate issues with leaks and other flashing wrongfully installed. Not only were the homeowners never told the truth about the clear Violations in Building Code of the roof, with the shingles wrongly installed along with wrongful flashing that immediately caused leaks in the ceiling and also big wet spots growing from the top of the roof down into the walls in some areas. He also never reported to us that he had decided to make friends with the horribly bad roofer and allowed the mental and psychological mind games to be played out by the Roofer [Landmark in Connecticut]. We were yelled at by the Roofer's "manager" and threatened when we called to report the problems with the copper work, shingles, and other clearly big issues that were clearly installed wrong.
Because we are not professional Inspectors, we trusted HB Fishman to write a clear report with photos of evidence to present to both the roofer and to the Building Department. HB Fishman gladly took our time, and $1,000 in payments from us, but no report that exposed any wrongdoing. This went on for months [as we continued to be ignored by the Roofer Owner as he just did not care one bit]. We were also subjected to harassment, name-calling, more threats "to put a lien on your home," etc. As a highly educated woman I was subjected to Machismo and arrogance unlike anything I had ever seen. I was condescended and was referred to as "our little friend" to Mike Moses as the Roofer made constant phone calls to Mike Moses, who was employed and paid for by the homeowner, to become "friends" in crime and harassment. Mike Moses totally ignored his fiduciary duties and legal responsibilities to us, yet he took our money.
He also never told us that he had befriended the bad Roofer and hired him for another job! This is morally and ethically wretched. We finally gave up on Mike Moses and HB Fishman and hired a competent Roof Inspector who spent more than two hours on our roof and gave us a 10 page, full report with photos as evidence that the roof was faulty and needed to be replaced entirely. Mike Moses and HB Fishman were called by me several times during such a harrowing nightmare yet said and did nothing to help us. Who does this to a Client? To boot, the Roofing Company Owner never came to our home to inspect the faulty work himself during this time whatsoever. He never took my phone calls, and never returned them either. Again, it was arrogance beyond measure. This is exactly what educated women all over the World march against: Male arrogance, discrimination, harassment, gender bias, and fraud.
When the 10 page report from the better Inspector came forward, Mike Moses and HB Fishman still had nothing to say for themselves and clammed up. We were rightfully Astonished! They were asked to return our $1,000 payment to them, but this cannot ever replace the mental, emotional, and psychological torment we endured simply because Mike Moses and his boss turned their backs on innocent people who trusted them. They simply did not do their job. And for what reason? To ensure the "Old boy network" of arrogance continues? To screw the homeowner? Why bother being a Roof Inspector is you fail to report anything wrong to both the homeowner and the Roofer who is liable? This story must be told because I am certain that this company has failed other people in the past and certainly has failed subsequent to this horrible experience that we had.
