Hector came as a referral from a friend and has not actually finished that project either due to latent construction.. anyways, so, met with him late Jan 2019 for a consult for 60’ of 8’ tall fencing and a 350 sqft ‘floating platform deck’ in our yard.
We interviewed a handful of companies that had a wide range of quotes and ended up choosing Hector’s quote on a project that was to be 8-10 days. He seemed really motivated and eager to assist us with our yard’s vision.. gave him a 50% deposit and he was supposed to be back within the next week to start putting in the fence posts and moving forward.
1 day.. 2 days.. then it turned into almost a week with no word/no show. Reached out via cell and text.. nada. The following week we finally reached him.. he was in the hospital! Poor Hector..! He’ll be sending somebody at the beginning of the next week to do the fence and start the deck. Next week comes.. nada. No text/ no call.
We touch base again and get nothing. Well, he HAD been sick.. right? So, we’re patiently waiting. Again.. another week.. nada. We call/text.. finally getting him and he’s ‘soooo sorry’ but his son went to Mexico for a family emergency and Hector has been swamped. He’ll be by in a bit with a crew to start the fence posts, but, he’s having a friend help the following week with our deck project.. he’ll start next Monday!
Monday comes.. nada. Finally mid week we come home and there is a rough deck stakeout in the yard.. we’re thrilled! Still only random fence posts in the ground but they started the deck!! The secondary contractor comes very randomly over the next few weeks with very limited supplies dropped off by Hector spuradically, however, the framing of the deck is coming together somewhat.
Now two weeks into deck building and nothing further than the fence posts we are really getting even more concerned with the obvious poor quality of work. Hector has become impossible to reach and we’ve incurred secondary costs exceeding $1000 for the numerous damaged sprinkler lines, electrics and zone motors ruined around the backyard deck..(With all of this the secondary contractor never said anything about the lines.. he just covered them back up like nothing happened.
The lawn guy was kind enough to point it out!) At this point it’s been like nearly two months. We’ve told the secondary contractor NOT to come back until we get a hold of Hector. The deck isn’t even square, half the posts aren’t even cemented, the supports are all different angles, nothing’s mitered and still, only the fence posts are in the ground for the fence.. ugh! Hector isn’t being responsible.. the work is completely shoddy. We were only able to reach him ONCE after when we called from a secondary phone number. He said he was back in the hospital.. again. (Yeah, right..)
Officially fired him the end of April 2019.. nearly three months into our 8-10 day project that isn’t even 20% done. Estimates up to $4000 to repair/redo properly the deck and $4500 to start the fence over again because all the posts were barely put in 12” when we were told they were 2’-3’ deep.. disappointing! We feel like such suckers! Had by a con and tried to give him the benefit of the doubt.
