I'm an American who moved to Mexico roughly six years ago. In 2017 I decided to open a small bar with the intentions of making a nice place for the locals to come and enjoy a beer without going broke. Any place clean and nice in the area was aimed toward the tourist and as such were priced for them as well. And that is where my report begins.
In the beginning much of what took place with Grupo Modelo (part of Anhieser Busch) and Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma (part of Heineken) seemed odd but I choked it up as how they do business here. Threatening to take coolers if I didn't order what I felt was an excessive amount of beer for a new bar to sell in a week, telling me to text my order rather than coming to the bar and making me aware of any specials, taking my order etc, and insisting the do not offer anything such as coasters, signage etc, to help with promoting there products and helping me to draw in new clientele.
It wasn't until about three months in and having spoken with some other current and former bar owners that I became aware that it was not simply the way they do business in Mexico but something more.
I was told by them all that texting you Rep to order beer was nothing unusual if it were after hours or an emergency order, but for him just to not come was not correct. They had the same question I did, "How do you know about any promos they might be running"? Keeping this short, they all were provided with swag to promote there products, everything from bottle openers and coaster to on guy being provided with all his tables and chairs from Grupo Modelo, at no charge. And none of them new anything about a minimum order requirement from either company.
To date, I haven't seen or been able to contact the Rep for Grupo Modelo in a year or more and my last contact with someone representing Heineken was two weeks ago. We had found a new number online that we called, received an automated answering service in which we request someone to come to our location.
A man who claimed he was in charge of customer relations in my area arrived that day and we explained the ongoing situation to which he told me my account had been closed and all info pertaining to it deleted, along with a roughly 1800 peso credit that I know I had with them. This was odd to me because I still have a cooler of theirs.
He stated that it had gone to legal even though nobody had ever attempted to retrieve the cooler. In other words he was lying and simply does not what to provide me service. At no time was he apologetic for how I've been treated, wasn't concerned at all that I've had 1800 pesos basically stolen from me and said he would look into it. That was over two weeks ago.
My wife and I have made dozens of calls, sent numerous text messages and emails and have received absolutely no response. Given that I have had zero contact with anyone other then the Reps and they know nothing of me other than my name which is clearly not Mexican I have no choice but to assume I am the victim of Racism.
I had held off on making a report until today when I saw a commercial on TV from Grupo modelo and how they support people from all cultural background and my
Blood just about boiled.
I'm well aware of the racism in Mexico as I deal with it daily but I wouldn't have expected it to be tolerated by two companies which operate on a global scale.
How has this effected the business? It has basically shut us down. I simply can't compete. I'm out of pocket every month for most of my operating costs. I havent quit because I have continually tried to find a way to make it work but I am out of money and ideas.
How has it effected My wife and me? I am sickened when I think about how many times I have seen my wife in tears of disbelief of how I'm being treated. As for me, I am not even the same man I was just two years ago. I feel like they have stolen everything from me not only financially but emotionally as well.
Make no mistake, this is only a sample of what has taken place with both companies. We have stories of things that even I still cannot believe actually took place, and wouldn't believe had I not experience it myself. I'm having the same issues with Coca-Cola as well.

Anyones thoughts would be appreciated.
