I lived in one of the Properties that was taken over by Greystone properties. I was a resident of 17+ years and was in good standing. Unfortunately i had to move out of state. In order to expedite the refund process. I had the manager start the process early. By law I am entitled to my full rent deposit since i was a resident over 10 years. By law the property management is suppose to mail me my check within 21 days. I emailed them as a reminder and even asked them to reply back to acknowledge my request. I called and spoke to "Debbie" who stated that department who manages this duty was not available and that i need to make a formal request for my deposit and call again another time. I've never heard of such a thing, where a tenant had to make a formal request?
I called again the following week to follow up and was told by the receptionist that they just started the process, which was clearly late. They assured me it would be handled and i would get an acknowledgement of my request which i never did. 23 days after i called and spoke to Debbie who said she had processed and mailed the check 4 days ago. I know it doesn't take that long to get mail as i've been receiving my mail quickly from CA within 3 days at most. This was a bold face lie, she was clear to admit that she manages the refunds and claimed that i never spoke to her to begin with and that i was "confused". So how did i even know the name Debbie worked there if that was the case?
She immediately told me she would cancel the 1st check to mail out a new one. Obviously a delay tactic. I told her that she didn't have my permission and if she is so confident after her stating that she mailed the 1st check herself why quickly offer to cancel it. I told her that in order to resolve the matter, to simply send me the new check registered mail with next day delivery. She refused, i ask her why and she said it was against policy. I asked her for a copy of the policy and she said she couldn't cause there is none. Wow, does she even realize how quickly her lies are coming through? I ask her for the owners contact info and she said she is the one in charge. I asked her is she is the company owner and she said she only manages it. Obviously she doesn't want me to talk to her boss. I've sent emails and called asking for this request and have been refused, repeatedly. She admitted that the owner reads the emails which he or she has neither replied to.
She then told me she was going to cancel my check, "without my permission" which is an admission that she is refusing payment and with her refusing to provide tracking information obviously comes off that they have no intention to refund my deposit back or provide proof to ensure my concerns.
I would be weary of any property that this company manages. The people in the office will lie directly to you. Will withhold and delay your refunds. The owners who don't seem to be concerned even after repeated formal request to talk to them. It seem i have no choice but to take this to court and file a law suit which will mostly like be more than the initial deposit. A simple ok ill mail it with tracking information would have settled this matter quickly.
