I had Gresham Toyota 950 NE Hogan Dr, Gresham, OR 97030 perform my 90K service on my 2003 Toyota 4Runner SR5. During this service they changed the front, center and rear differential fluids. The Gresham Toyota Service Department did not bother to check for any TSB technical service bulletins and used the wrong differential fluid. The TSB also provides the correct torquing specifications for the aluminum alloy and steel differentials. A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is a communication between Toyota and its dealerships that can serve as an update to Toyota publications, describe parts updates, or relay enhanced or new service procedures.
The Toyota TSB DL003-07 update calls for 75W85 GL5 Synthetic fluid and the use of a torque wrench to prevent damage to the aluminum alloy differential drain and fill plugs. After I pointed this out to the service advisor Gresham Toyota agreed to redo the differential work. During the redo the service technician forgot to change the rear differential oil and used a breaker bar rather than the required torque wrench as called for in the technical service bulletin to tighten the drain plugs on the aluminum alloy differential cases. Because of the incompetency of the service technician the front differential drain plug is seized.
I am not trying to hurt their reputation. Gresham Toyota is doing a good job of this without my help. The truth is customers look for a dealer they can trust not a dealer that will damage their vehicle. For those that are not aware of Oregon Law, Oregon places a ten year statue of limitations on product liability. Since the primary product of any Toyota Service Department is labor customers have ten years to discover and demand payment for any damage that any Toyota dealer does.
United States law also provides for delayed discovery even if you discover the damage at a later date. Ken Cornelison General Manager 503-667-1135 ext. 4500 told me on January 04, 2018 that Gresham Toyota had been given the Presidents Award for ten consecutive years. “Each year Toyota Motor Sales recognizes its finest dealerships with the prestigious President's Award. The President's Award honors Toyota dealers that excel in all facets of their operations. It is recognition for dealerships that continue to go above and beyond at each customer touch point and represent the best of the best”.
I checked with Toyota Motor Corporation on January 04, 2018 and they said Gresham Toyota has never received the Presidents award. It seems like somebody has a problem telling the truth. Toyota Motor Corporation should know if they awarded Gresham Toyota the Presidents Award ten times. This lack of integrity brings Toyotas reliability in question. When I brought the differential case damage issue to Grant Lord the current service manager 503-667-1135 ext. 45 he demonstrated his concern by hanging up the telephone.
I find that Gresham Toyota is completely incompetent and not qualified to be maintaining or repairing any Toyota vehicles.Overall I find Gresham Toyota to be completely incompetent, unprofessional and a horrible experience. I brought my damage complaint to the attention of Toyota Motor Corporation on January 02, 2018 at 800 331 4331. Toyota listened intently to my complaint. Their real motive is risk management, identifying any problem complaints that could result in a class action lawsuit.
When I called Toyota Motor Corporation at 800 331-4331 I waited and waited and waited. Apparently their lines are clogged with unhappy Toyota customers waiting to complain. Toyota Motor Corporation said that they would elevate my complaint and somebody would contact me within forty eight hours. This turned out to be a lie. Toyota Motor Corporation later back tracked and said that Gresham Toyota would contact me by the end of business Thursday January 04, 2018. This also turned out to be a lie.
If you have an opportunity to sue your dealer do not forget to sue Toyota Motor Corporation. United States law recognizes a paid agency. This is a paid relationship where both parties receive financial compensation from the relationship. If your dealer refuses to pay for the damages, you can sue Toyota Motor Corporation to recover your damages. The harder Toyota Motor Corporation tries to deceive you with double talk and mumbo jumbo the more likely you will recover significant punitive damages in and for to set an example.
If any class action law firms like my review, their attorneys should contact me immediately to see if we can explore just how deep the pockets of Gresham Toyota and Toyota Motor Corporation really are. Today is Friday January 05, 2018 and Gresham Toyota still has not contacted me. So much for Toyotas legendary reliability. If you live in the greater Portland Oregon area you are fortunate. There are approximately a dozen Toyota dealerships to choose from. My service experience at Gresham Toyota was definitely amateur absolutely not professional.
When I look for the perfect dealership I will seriously consider the reputation of their service department. On Friday January 05, 2018 I called Ken Cornelison General Manager 503-667-1135 ext. 4500. Ken Cornelison said that his service department does not offer any type of guarantee or warranty then hung up. Apparently ToyotaCare is more marketing hype. Ken Cornelison and Grant Lord made it crystal clear that Gresham Toyota does not care.
A good price is only fifty percent of the equation. The most important part is quality service. Does any dealership than is unable to deliver competent service deserve your new car business? If my experience is a true indication of the poor quality of the Gresham Toyota Service Department, this dealership will end up paying millions in class action lawsuits to unhappy customers. My next Toyota 4X4 will be spelled F-O-R-D. Any FORD mechanic that seizes any bolt because he or she is either too stupid or too lazy to properly use a torque wrench will be quickly walked to the door.
