Our home was damaged by hail storms in May of 2021. I chose Greer Construction LLC because Christopher Greer advertised on our neighborhood Facebook page as a licensed business and included pictures of homes he was working on, he also mentioned a neighborhood discount. The first time he came to our home was in early August, he took a first payment in early September, but he did not start any repairs until late October.
Before the work was started, Mr. Greer told me that our insurance had only approved for two sides of our home to be painted and he said he was going to call our insurance agent on our behalf to ask for additional money to cover the other two sides. Over the next few weeks, Mr. Greer kept making excuses as to why he hadn’t been able to get the additional insurance coverage, so I finally wrote to our insurance guy myself after some research. I found a section in our bylaws that I sent to our agent, additionally I explained why I thought we should receive the coverage and they approved it. So, what we have already paid Mr. Greer, is actually more than the original amount he was supposed to receive and he still hasn’t fully completed the work.
Greer Construction workers did a terrible job on some sections of our home, and Greer Construction roofers caused further damages to our home and our fence, which we just replaced last year. When we emailed to say we were unhappy with some of the work and with the damages that had been done, Mr. Greer responded by threatening to put a lien on our property unless we send further payment, even though we have already paid out a lot of money to him. He also said that his men would not be back to fix the damages or to finish our windows since they are no longer comfortable on our property after reading our concerns.
Mr. Greer had me write checks directly to him even though he advertises as an LLC, which I thought was odd. After all of this, I looked Greer Construction LLC up with the Secretary of State and I cannot find a record of his business even being licensed. So we are left with shoddy work, damages to deal with and his threat of a lien. He has sent an estimate with my signature as the “contract”, when I provided my electronic signature for this estimate on 9/9 it was for the original lower amount that the insurance first approved.
This whole experience has been a nightmare. I asked Mr. Greer to send us the pictures he took of our completed roof so we could at least see if the work up there appeared to have been done right, but he hasn't ever sent us those. His roofers completed our roof in one day on November 5th. We had a second contractor come out on December 12th because Mr. Greer refused to communicate further except with threats and refused to send the pictures of our roof.
The second contractor was shocked at what he found. He took pictures of our roof and showed us how bad the work was. He actually took the time to explain our insurance coverage to us too. The vinyl beading on our windows was never completed. Greer Construction roofers worked in wet conditions and so the shingles have not cured resulting in bulging and being easily lifted. Mr. Greer installed ridge venting but left the passive vents on the home, therefore, our attic now has improper ventilation. The ridge cap was missing some shingles under the ridge venting. Our claim listed the combing of AC condenser fins, which Mr. Greer took money for, but did not do. Valley metal was not present on the back slope. The shingles used had been acquired in April of 2021 so they were not brand new.
Mr. Greer has warned us not to write negative reviews and said our discounts would be revoked and he would pursue punitive damages. Mr. Greer also has been nothing but ugly in all responses to us. He says we asked his crew not to return which never happened. My husband asked that they come fix damages and complete the work and Mr. Greer did not like that and said his men were not comfortable returning after reading our emails. Damages turned out to be even worse than we thought and we will have to pay another contractor to fix them since Mr. Greer is dishonest and has only threatened and harassed us since hearing our concerns. He claims he is having us investigated for insurance fraud but we did nothing wrong and he should have to return our money because we will now have to pay someone to do the work the right way.
On December 24th, Mr. Greer sent us an invoice marked past due, it was the first one he has ever sent, prior to that we only had an estimate because he did not do much in writing. I then received a text from Mr. Greer stating that he would mark the invoice as paid and telling me to leave him and his company alone. Because Mr. Greer has been so ugly, dishonest and unprofessional, we can no longer trust him and because he has said he and his men are not comfortable returning not only will we have to pay another contractor to fix everything but Mr. Greer obviously has no intention of honoring his warranty. This morning I received a second past due notice proving Mr. Greer actually did not keep his word yet again. However, we do not owe him anything, he should reimburse us for damages at this point.
