What a terrible, terrible experience with this place. It's almost unreal. I was looking to buy a Toyota Prius and they had one in stock which had the mileage and all the features I was looking for. I made an appointment to go in and see the car and get financing options, etc.
I test drove the car and all seemed well, and I wanted to buy the car. I made one stipulation to these people which was that since the prius is a very specialty car with a hybrid electrical system, battery, etc? That I just wanted to have it checked out by a toyota dealer just to be safe that there were no issues with those systems.
I sat down with the Manager Dane, who told me that having the car checked out would be no problem and I could bring it to Toyota before making the final buy. It was Saturday afternoon when I was there, so the earliest I would be able to bring the car to Toyota would be the next day, and this was understood.
We then sat there for about an additional 3 hours negotiating rates, prices, they ran my credit (which by the way damages your credit every time you get an inquiry), and we came up with a final monthly payment and terms.
Before I get to the worst part of this just know this first: DO NOT believe the advertised price they give you.
Once you get in there the price of the car is one thing, but then they tack on $3 - $4000 in other "dealer fees", which is a SCAM in my opinion to get you in the door. When I called the "manager" out on these ridiculous fees and asked him what they represented? He smiled and said "That's additional dealer profit"...So basically they are fees for the sake of fees, so these crooks can suck more money out of you, hoping you wont notice. Disgraceful.
I negotiated some of those fees down though (since I was already there and liked the car), and we landed upon a payment and price I was OK with.
Once this was done, I got on the phone with my insurance company right in front of them and got rates, etc and got that quote ready to go using the cars VIN, end everything was ready to go. I also called a local Toyota dealer right in front of the manager and the sales man and made an appointment to bring the car in the next day, since it was after 5pm and their service department was closed at that time. But they were willing to take me on Sunday, the next day to take a look at the car.
This was all negotiated, and I was told I could pick up the car from them at 11am the next day to bring it to Toyota for the inspection. This would all be ready to go.
With the entire deal ready to go, and the appointment made with toyota for the morning the next day? I shook hands with the salesman and the manager and we all agreed I would pick up the car the next day, and as long as Toyota gave the car a clean bill of health? I'd be buying it and driving it out of there Sunday afternoon.
I probably spent 4 hours with them setting all this up, getting everything ready, etc.
The next day I called the manager bright and early to tell him I'm going to be coming in to take the car in to Toyota.
To this I'm told: 'Oh yeah, sorry. We sold the car to someone else last night after you left...."
I'm sorry WHAAAAATTTTT?!?!?!?????
After talking to someone for 4 hours, setting up a whole plan, my credit run and damaged, the deal negotiated, everything ready to go?
The MOMENT I leave there, they sell the car to someone else.
I have never in my life dealt with a company which is this dishonest in the way they do things. To make matters even worse?
When I got on the phone with the manager again? It was like nothing had happened. His attitude was basically as if I "should have expected" them to have sold the car out from under me, right after I left. It was an absolutely incredulous conversation.
You would think after talking to a CUSTOMER for 4 hours and making an agreement with them? You would assume MAYBE a reputable place might make a call to that customer BEFORE selling the car out from under them to another person, and completely scrapping the agreement they just made with that customer.
Had I KNOWN that the car would still be for sale after I left? I would have put a deposit down, or done something to hold the car. Not ONCE was I told that after I left, they were still going to look to sell the car to someone else. Never would that have entered my mind.
WHO DOES BUSINESS LIKE THAT???!!????
Do yourself a favor? Look elsewhere to buy a new or used car. I now have wasted an entire day, my credit is damaged thanks to an inquiry I would never have done had I known what they were going to do, I wasted other peoples time at Toyota setting a whole appointment up, and I have absolutely ZERO to show for this.
All because I made the decision to try to deal with this very unscrupulous place, and made the mistake of taking them at their word and thinking they were honest people.
Once I saw all of the BS "dealer fees"? I should have walked out then. That was my mistake.
Do not trust them, and don't think that because they tell you something? That their words mean anything.
They'll smile to your face, shake your hand, and talk a real good game; But don't fall for it.
