On 11-29-2016 I called Greater Towing and Recovery from a website called NTTS Breakdown used by transportation companies. I talked to Richard and told him we had a semi truck brokedown on I-275 at rest area near route 12. I called Wolverine Freightliner to check and see if they had new replacement parts on hand and was told yes.
The clutch linkage rubber ball socket came apart. A text picture of the item was sent to me via text and I forwarded it to Richard so he could see how it was.
I told Richard that Wolverine Freightliner had the new replacement parts. Richard informed me that he had done quick fixes on this kind of issue before. He informed me that it would be $450.00 to replace the parts plus the cost of the parts which was approx $100.00 for a total of $550.00. He informed me he wanted to go look at it to see if he could quick fix it instead of replacing all the parts and he assured me he should be able to do it.
I sent my driver a text message that Richard from Greater Towing was coming out to try and put a washer on the bolt to keep the ball socket together. I also informed our driver we would replace all the parts when he got back to the shop.
Richard quick fixed the truck and then stated that would be $400.00 for the repair. We got into a verbal confrontation and I informed him that that was highway robbery and $200.00 was sufficient for less than 45 minutes of work. Richard tried to tell me that my driver informed him that I did this to kind of thing all the time to people What a liar this Richard guy is". Richard hung up the phone on me after he said he was calling the police.
A short time later I get a phone call and I think it is my driver but find out it was a Michigan State Trooper using my drivers phone. I tried to explain to the officer what the repair company was trying to do and he said he did not care just get it resolved. I was also informed by the State Trooper as he threatened me if I did not pay the bill he would call the Michigan DOT and have our truck thoroughly inspected for any and all violations they could find. He alsoinformed me if placed out of service it would then be towed away. State Trooper also said that the violations would show up on my CSA report and he did not think I wanted against me.
The State Trooper read the text messages between myself and my driver. What peed the Officer off was that I sent my driver a text seconds before I received the call from him and it read "that guy is a lying d****e bag". The Trooper had no right to search the phone in anyway shape or form. I also received a text from Richard that he or the trooper sent to his phone from my drivers phone.
I would steer clear of this company as Richard tried to persuede me from correct repairs to a quick fix so he can make more money faster. My driver heard Richard talking on the phone giving other quotes of 400-800 for repairs to others. Sounds like in a hurry to get to the next call to screw others just as fast.
