Great American Handyman Reviews
Contracted Mr. Baile (vendor) on 11/22/16 to do two bathroom remodels. The work stopped at 40%, meaning a shower with no doors since November, and the kid's bathroom with unfinished sheetrock and subflooring, completely unusable for months and months. I'm disheartened that there is very little we can do but sit and wait for legal process.
We are a family 1) in stress with military son overseas 2) out $10K, and 3) had to cancel plans of listing our house until money is recouped so work on house can be finished.
We feel abandoned. The turning point was when we asked for a completion date so I could make arrangements with the real estate agent. This angered John Baile. He then made a request for the final funds which was completely ludicrous. Honestly it was completely ludicrous that we gave him the money that we did upfront, but we honored our contract. To continue to pay out without receiving materials and services would have been idiotic.
Ultimately we feel abandoned. We worked through differences in style and communications. Even though we were the customer, we had no say-so in when and if he showed up to work. His communication style went from hostile to emoji's, with very little middle ground as he simply didn't like to communicate what his plans were.
When John Baile, the "Great American Handyman" went completely silent we sent a certified letter which was never picked up.
After doing some reading, I see that this is a theme with a lot of his jobs over the years... which is abusive to consumers. But the fault is ours for not doing enough research to read all of the bad posts about him and stopping when we read one good one. I sure wish I could go back in time and work with someone qualified, and that possesses work ethic, even ethics at all.
Nothing Great About Great American Handyman! If could give 0 stars I would! On February 23 2017, I hired John Baile and his Company Great American Handyman, to install a white 6ft vinyl privacy fence on my property. As per his requirements, 60% of the total cost of the product and installation was to be paid upfront in order for the fence to be ordered through the manufacturer. That included 60% of the cost of the product and a portion for labor and installation. Do not ever agree to this with Mr. Baile or hire him as it's one of his many tactics deceive you, take your money, and run. The following will give you an idea of the stress I've had to deal with and how this company should never been used by anyone!
On February 24, 2017, a check was written to Mr. Baile who assured me that the fence would be ordered with a 2 week lead time for installation occurring the week of March 13, 2017. He cashed the check same-day - go figure! After not hearing from Mr. Baile, I inquired as to the status of the fence of March 23, 2017. Note: This is a month after payment was made. Mr. Baile advised that he would follow-up with the fence company to determine the status of delivery for installation. I advised Mr. Baile that the fence would need to be installed as soon as the product was delivered. He had already breached our agreement and I wanted the fence installed so I could move on and never deal with him again. The fence was delivered on my property on March 31, 2017. Mr. Baile committed to an installation date of April 1, 2017 however; was unable to make this commitment. He gave multiple excuses and never rescheduled the installation. Hence, the fence remains on my property.
From April 1, 2017 to April 15, 2017, Mr. Baile refused to provide a date for the installation. I consistently followed-up with him and he has refused to answer phone calls and has resorted to text messages in order to avoid direct conversation. His text messages are vague, promising me he will get back to me but never does. During this time, I provided Mr. Baile multiple options for the fence installation including hiring a contractor and even refunding my money and taking the product. Mr. Baile refused to commit to any decision and continued to provide assurance that the fence would be installed without a definitive timeframe. The fence was never installed.
I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint as no consumer should be subjected to these unfair and deceptive business tactics by Great American Handyman or Mr. Baile. Unfortunately, the Better Business Bureau doesn't do anything for the consumer as even if you refute his response, the case is closed. If you are reading this, trust me, do not use this company. I will fight him in court for everything he has done to deceive me, breach our agreement, and steal money for work not completed.
I am currently in what has turned into a lengthy dispute with this company and have complaints in progress through BBB and other state and county agencies of NC.
I erred in giving them a $1000.00 deposit up-front expecting to receive a contract and to be scheduled for work to begin on several projects in my home.
There was a delay in one item, but I made repeated requests for him to start work on the other jobs to be done. After 3-4 months delay and no work done I requested the deposit back and he refused. This person and his company have not done any work to earn any of my hard-earned money.
I have sent a negative review of this company through the BBB which should be processed shortly. Once the complaint is resolved you will see from his responses what you will be getting into if you hire him.
