I just read the report of someone else who has had identical experiences with GAFCO as I have had. Yes, GAFCO did make it difficult for me to get a loan, the people at the store were acting strangely, and yes, I had decent credit. I got a loan to get bedroom furniture. EVERY TIME I am even one day late on their loan payment, they start wage garnishment processes on me. There are no 'past due' statements, no reminders, nothing. They go from paying on time to garnishment.
So, I phoned a local attorney. It turns out that their ability to even get a garnishment rests on them going to court and having it approved by a judge. That is a long process, since they have to first get a judgment, etc., and takes months. So why is their first line of offense a threat of garnishment? Like the other person who whom this happened, I believe they are psychopaths--it is a company of psychopathic individuals who love to torture people. They particularly love people with low income and no resources, and are almost giddy when someone has little education. These folks are the most vulnerable, and give up their rights.
So, my advice, is to call the state bar association to ask for a free lawyer. Yes, they are lawyers out there who will help for free. I did, and here is what I found out:
1) They h ave to get a court order first, which will take many months or even a year.
2) They will not get it if you live below poverty level.
So, if you already are "in" with these folks, just call an attorney the next time they attempt to hurt you. What they are doing is blatently illegal, so my next stop is the Federal Trade Commission and the State's Attorney office.
I went to the Value City Furniture Store to buy a bedroom set for my daughter. I applied credit and they declined. So they told to go applied GAFCO then I did. So I got approved. Then I got the bedroom set delivered to my house August 13 2015 so then everything went fine. Last year I broker my wrist and had to go to the ER. They refer me to go to the bone doctor and then they told me , I will be out of work 8 weeks and I had the surgery fine. I had my husband called the GAFCO and he told them what happen. He said we couldn't come up with the payment. And asked if they could wait till 8 weeks. They refused to help. So 8 weeks later we get a phone call from the woman and she was so rude. Asking for 189.00 and i told her i can't give you money because I don't have it and she has to wait for the paycheck. So she said u owed 3,000.00 .Well paycheck comes around and i gave her 189.00 That she took out of my bank account.
Then two weeks later she called again for another 189.00. I didn't have it Bc I had to paid house payment and car payment. In that time I gave up. So here today 2/5/2017 Fed ex came to my home and I received a large evelope. I read it and here there taking me to court 2/17/2017. I have right in front of me it stated there taking me to court for 1,791.72. After the last told me , I owed 3,000.00 Last year. Please BEWARE AND DO NOT APPLIED FOR THIS COMPANY. I will not finance threw them again. I did it twice and paid it off and i did it again , so there taking me to court. NEVER AGAIN. learned my lesson." Beware"
