We have a lot of eviddence for what we claim GCU is about, and we have evidence that the school (specificlaly Brian Mueller) is colluding with Barbara Gellmane-Danley at the Higher Learning Commission..... join us at Grand Canyon Univeristy-scam! on facebook to connect with others and learn more.

IN 2014 U finished my 26th of 38 credits toward a program called: Masters in Special Education for Certified Special Educators. At this time I chose to put my graduate program on hold. I was pregnant with my 3rd child and very ill. At the time I planned to return to school right after my child's birth. However, shortly after my son was born my husband lost his job and I had to return to work in order to support my family. Hoping I could return to my graduate program when my life was more manageable, I put my classes on hold again. I wanted to be able to gove all of my focus to a graduate degree in order to maintain my current GPA of 4.0. When I applied to ttrutnr to school in 2016 I was told that the graduate program I was a pat of was no longer in existance. With only 3 classes left in until earning my masters, my entire program was gone. I was current on my loans at this time, but could not afford to pay for all 26 past credits earned and start over with a brand new program.

I sumitted an appeal in July of 2016. At that time I begged the University to "grandfather" me in as they would normally do if I was a student with only 2 classes remaining attempted to return to a program after being gone for over 6 months and/or returning after a program had changed. I was requesting special permission because i only had 3 classes remaining until earning a Masters in Special Education, with 4 credits in each class, I could not afford to start over.

The Universities response came over 8 weeks later. They informed me that they could not grandfather me in. However, they would transfer 11 of my 26 credits to the new program leaving me with 6 classes prior to earning my masters. The federal student loan office continued to charge me for ALL the credits I earned. I asked for forbearance on my loans in order to continue to plead my case. I was unsucessful with another attempt begging the University to reconsider. So, I chose to continue researching other possible resolutions. Now I am in default on my loans, I owe over $24,000. I cannot in good faith fork over this amount of money for an education that is not being recognized.

I have been attending Grand Canyon University for online coursework attempting to procure my Graduate degree in Healthcare Informatics now for over a year and a half, and recently, the instructors have gotten to be really hard-core about their requirements. This is concerning to me beause I have managed to hold an 'A' average thus far, but it is getting to the point here recently, specifically the last 2 classes, where almost everything that I turn in is getting shredded by the instructors for not being up to their seemingly unreadchable standards of academia.

In theory, you are supposed to be able to communicate with the instructors to get clarification of any issues they have with your work, but they seem to ignore any and all attempts to reach out to them, for some reason. The school itself almost religiously tells you to contact your Student Services Advisor for help with problems, but he is almost always out of the office for days at a time, and so that is not a realistic option. Also, if they ignore you, do not get upset, regardless of how much moneyh they are scamming you out of, because the school has very strict, anddraconian policies about proper communication with instructors, and will come down on you like a ton of bricks for sending angry messagews to instructors, no matter what they have done.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that graduate courses are not supposed to be easy, but the only feedback that I am getting seems to be vague comments about my work, and way overgeneralized statements about what I am doing wrong. My mistake, because I thought I was paying to be instructed, not just randomly barked at. I have a job, and a daughter to deal with on top of my school, and cannot spend 10 hours a day trying to get answers from the school over what is the problem. I am beginning to feel like I got scammed into signing up with this so called 'school', and want my money refunded for the time I have wasted there.

BE CAREFUL, if you are considering enrolling in this criminal organization, beaause like most For-Profit institutions like them, once they have your money, your are on your own!!

I have been a student of Grand Canyon University's online program now for some time, and recently started my 7th course towards my Masters Degree in Healthcare Informatics....

Up until now, I have managed to maintain a solid A+ average in my classes, but I am beginning to feel like that has come to an end with this class because the instructor is not a true Professor, and instead is just a student instructor who seems to be very racist, expecting a great deal more effort from Caucasian students than she does from other African students. I did not find this out, much like many others I have read about until week 2 because I was not paying close attention to my discussion posts, and because this bratty little girl does not bother to respond to messages to get further information from her that are posted in the Individual Forums.

This piece of GARBAGE, BlackLivesMatter fanatic, has taken points off of every one of my posts claiming that it is because I am not using "scholarly voice" in my writing, as well as complaining about not strictly adhering to APA format. This is SO ignorant because I was NEVER informed that APA was expected in discussion posts, and I have no clue what scholarly voice is, nor what it has to do with forum posts at all.

For the record, my family came to this country in 1908, and Slavery was already ANCIENT HISTORY before we even landed in America, so I owe Africans NOTHING!!

As previously stated, this little bigot absolutely refuses to respond to any of my attempts to reach her for clarification, and has even gone so far as to suggest that I get a writing tutor while I am still enrolled. WHAT A CROCK!!

So, I contacted my Student Advisor for how to proceed, and was informed that it was too late for me to withdraw from the course and take it later because of the ridiculous so called :policies: of GCU about withdrawals. So, in order to drop this course and maintain my 3.94 GPA, I would have to pay for the course again out of my own pocket. WOW, that is a rip!!

So, I decide FINE, I will just drop out completely from the school, but this appears to be not allowed at GCU. It is as if they now have their claws in me, and will NOT let go....

So, I am disgusted that I ended up here just because I wanted to improve my life, but I guess, THEY GOT ME!!

Now, I am going to end up NOT getting my degree, and owing these GCU SHARKS thousands of dollars for nothing....

UUGGHH just KILL ME!!

STAY AWAY from this school, they are a criminal scam!!!!

Grand Canyon University I signed up for GCU’s RN to BSN program in July 2016 and at that time was given my transfer credit report showing that all my classes taken for my A.S in Nursing would transfer and I would only have only 10 classes to take for my BSN. The cost was $18600 for those classes. During my second class at GCU – they added another class (Health Assessment), that had never been discussed, to my curriculum – effectively increasing my indebtedness to them by another $1860. This was a class that showed quite plainly on my A.S Nursing degree transcripts that I had already taken and received credit for on my transfer credit report. I phoned my advisor, Michele West, to question why they did this without notifying or even sending me a cursory email. In fact, I left several messages over a week or so for Michele and she didn’t return any of my calls until I called her supervisor and left a message. Michele finally called me and said they would take this class off and have it “reviewed” since I had already taken it. Two weeks later, without any notification, this class was added back to my curriculum again. Again, I disputed the class and was told that this was a different class than I had taken before. The school refused to even provide me with a description of the class, only the title “Health Assessment” and the number was provided, but from this it was the exact same class that I had already taken. I withdrew from the program after only 2 months. My student loan has been charged $3000 by GCU and then, out of malice and spite, GCU tacked on an additional $356 for “Unreg/dropped class” for the Health Assessment class that I didn’t need in the first place and are now leaving cryptic messages on my voice mail demanding that I pay them the $356. I’m disputing these charges, but since there is no financial aid or billing department with GCU – the only person I can dispute this charge with is Michele West, my advisor, whom has been nothing but rude, nasty and obnoxious throughout my experience with Grand Canyon University. This school has already had one class action law suit for this type of behavior, which they settled for an undisclosed amount. This school is a scam and I’m very disappointed in them. They are very unprofessional and I rue the day I ever became involved with these shysters. Carla L. De Luca, RN

This university has the worst instructors in the world of instructors. They are ripping people off left and right. I had a class with an instructor who did not engage or respond to students or maybe it was just me.... Not sure. I had questions she did not respond for days. I am an online student and you can't drop the class or transfer school or they will send you financial aid back. It's like you are trapped. I complained and made An 69.5 in this class. When the class was over the instructor contacted me and said I will look over your work, however I don't believe your grade will change. She didn't look at anything. Then I'm told I have to pay the money back for the class. I'm like ok. Then I'm told I can do an academic review. Which is a joke because they didn’t do anything!!!?? Nothing!!!! I'm like wow and this is a Christian university. I do not like thieves and cheats. They are too much for me. Now I'm in a class with which this instructor has the same attitude. This is ridiculous. How are we to learn anything with this crap going on? This is a shady operation. Online education is a joke. They sucker you in with by telling you that they understand that you have a career and family. However, the instructors don't give a hoot!!!

To make a long story short. This school is dishonest and they will cheat you out of your education. You have to stay on top of them.

I enrolled in Dec 2015 and quickly learned that the information I was given about the program was not true. I dropped from the school three days after I enrolled and got a bill for 3000.00 dollars. It took me weeks of arguing and sending proof that I dropped the first week to get the fee lowered. They then decided to use my grant money to cover the drop fee of 830.00 which is not legal. I told them I was attending another school and that the grant would not go through and it didnt. They now tell me I owe 769.00 and they falsely chrged my grant money the difference. I have emailed and called advisors, supervisors and recelty the director, Tyler Nelson, Cameron Murphy and Ian Flores and got the usual run around and a very brash email explining again that I had a balance and then said that I agreed to a payment plan that I did not and they dont seem to have in writing. This is a tragedy and a mockery of the education system. The school has never updated my contact information after I repeatedly given it to them so they say they cant get a hold of me, bu they can email false information to me. I want this balance wiped out and an apology.

I attended GCU in 2010 and graduated in 2015 with a BS in Educational Studies and with honors. I had several issues with the the school holding my stipend for many weeks before releasing and I had to change my program at the end due to not being able to complete student teaching. My daughter has Down Syndrome and I had here after I was in the program for 2 years but they would not give any accommodations for my special circumstances with the 24 hour care and therapy appointments. I was charged full price for books that were only EBooks and my added classes for the course added to my financial aid debt. They were constantly changing staff and one academic counselor would say one thing and another would change it. I gave thousands owed in student debt and can't get a job and I think it is because of the GCU name. I worked so hard for my "A" average which was not easy and I can't get a job.

Grand Canyon University offers Merit based scholarships to only 20.3% of their students. Merit based scholarships are given as acknowledgment of above average academic achievement. But only the few students who attend their campus location are eligible for these scholarships. Even though their online students provide well over 80% of the schools revenue.

I am one of their approximately 58,000 online students and I am finishing up my sixth class - with great determination and a lot of hard work I have managed to receive an 100 to 92 in each class. This was and is no easy feat - the course work is very comprehensive and challenging. Each class is worth 4 credits each and when a campus based student manages to make the same kind of grades i have made then after 12 credits (3 classes) they are automatically put on a dean's list and a scholarship is automatically applied to their student account. I have yet to even recieve an 'atta a girl' pat on the back let alone monetary compensation for my successes.

So one has to ask 'Why the favoritism? Aren't my accomplishments as worthy as a campus based students? Is the level of the education they receive superior to mine? is it because as an online student am I not as important as a campus based student? Am I not as valuable? Are my accomplishments of lesser quality then theirs? Shouldn't all students be given the same opportunities? From a business point of view (after all GCU is a proprietary institution) is it a good business practice to offer specials and incentives to your least revenue producing customers?

Any student who performs above and beyond the average should be acknowledged for their achievements regardless of their choice of educational delivery system. I recently sent a letter (my 2nd correspondence with the man) to Brian Mueller, GCU's CEO and I have been completely ignored. The reason I contacted him in the first place was because I wanted to deal with the person that had the authority to actually do something about it and I was told how much he cares and approachable he is by my advisors, Julia and Courtney. Instead I should have heeded the words from GCU's former students who universally claimed that when they had an issue with GCU they were ignored.

As I previously stated, the majority of GCU's revenue comes from their online students (customers) so basically it is the online students that pay for the campus based scholarships that the campus based students receive. But to add insult to injury GCU has spent $600 million on upgrades and improvements to their campus location with an additional $100 million earmarked for each year for more campus upgrades and improvements through 2020. It's bad enough to be treated as the red-headed stepchild but it is this red-headed stepchild that has made all of that possible. The improvements and expansions only benefit 20.3% of their students which according to the Downtown Devil a Phoenix publication for the school year 2014-2015 1964 students lived on campus and 183 lived off campus in campus sponsored accommodations. So we are talking about 2147 students out of 58,000. From GCU's SEC filings the campus based student population increased by 15% by the end of 2015.

This includes all students who attend the campus based school - by doing the math the number of students who live on campus at the end of 2015 is approximately 2470 students out of 58,000; this accounts for only 0.042% of their entire student body. Not even 1%. The improvements for this .042% includes things like: a bowling alley, 4 new dormitories, a movie theater, and 4 full size new swimming pools. Upgrades and expansions that will benefit all campus based students, the 20.3% of the student body, include things like a golf course, 2 parking garages, 2 additional campus eateries, a basketball arena, a soccer stadium, a performing arts building equipped with a full size studio and full size theater, and even their own hotel named after the school, The Grand Canyon University Hotel. This list is far from inclusive; it is just to show you how much money GCU spends on their favored child - the campus based students - yet they can't even acknowledge their online students whose revenue made all of the things listed above and more possible.

Currently, according to yahoo financial GCU's revenue as of the end of Dec. 2015 was $778,200,000 with an operating profit of $210,361,000. So obviously from the above expenditures and the yahoo information GCU could afford to acknowledge when we excel academically and give us online students the merit based scholarships we so rightfully deserve. Don't you agree?

While going through the enrollment process with the enrollment counselor at GCU, I was told to complete my financial aid form. At that time I didn't have my correct tax information available and the copies I retrieved of it were not readable copies. I in turn requested my transcript from the IRS. I called myself correcting the information on my FAFSA but I'm not sure if all the information was corrected or not. However, the financial aid department continued to request more and more information from me and I was able to give to them until now.

Two weeks ago I was informed through my student services representative that I am still going through verification and that the information on my 2014 tax return shows me having $660 unaccounted for and I don't know what it is or where it came from. I have had other people who are financial aid advisors look at this for me but they said they don't see where GCU is coming from with that. At this point I'm not very clear on what it is they are requesting from me because I have given them all the information I have regarding my income and it is all accounted for on my return. I in-turn asked to speak with someone in financial aid but my counselor said that I wasn't allowed to speak with them but only to her. She then went on to tell me that she was going to cancel my next class and that I was to finish up with the class I'm in since I've already started. I must add that I am doing rather well and I am enjoying my class. She also made me aware that she had to cancel my classes until I get through verification and that if I don't get through verification that I would be removed from taking any more classes and I will be held accountable for the bill that has occurred. Even though according to law they can stick me with the bill, but I think it is totally unfair for me to pay a bill when they knew from the beginning that I was not finished with verification or the enrollment process. I am still attending the school but I have never had trouble with financial aid in the passed when I went to other schools, so why with this one??? I think they are trying to make me pay the bill and that they have messed up somewhere and they are making me pay for their mess. It is not fair and I want to know WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS??? I have tried looking at other online schools but they do not have the online BA Degree that I am interested in. If anyone can help me in this matter I would sure appreciate it because I want to continue my education, but I can't afford to continue IF I have to pay out of pocket. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE HELP this single, minority mother of 4???

Thank you in advance!!!

The University took my payment for clsasses did not release the to me...retaliated when I filed a Civil Rights action against me and altered my grades...so that it appeared that I was failing.

  • Nov 9, 2015

My "enrollment counselor" did not tell me about the class drop policy before he enrolled me in classes. My "enrollment counselor" did not tell me that I would be unable to drop classes after Week 1. My "enrollment counselor" did not have me speak with a Financial Aid Advisor BEFORE he enrolled me in classes. Grand Canyon University should be shut down

After 1 week of online classes, I tried to drop my online class and withdraw from Grand Canyon University. I was told that if I dropped my class, that I would have to pay off a 1,495 dollar balance within 3 months. Most real colleges/universities allow you to drop a class within the first 2 weeks without penalty.... Now, I am stuck and have to take this online class, even though I have significant health problems.... Please avoid Grand Canyon University!

I attended GCU to complete a BA after obtaining an associates degree at a local community college. I had attended ASU and several other institions in the past and I have never had the issues that I have experienced with GCU.

First you are assigned a student advisor that helps you pick your classes and set everything up for you. Fine. Well during my time here my student adviser changed so frequently no one knew what they were doing. Again, Fine, I get it maybe a stressful job with high turn-over. Finally I had the same adviser long enough to hammer out a class schedule and plan and to assist with finicial aide. Good. Then things got weird I was told that the school may request more finicial aid than is needed "just to be safe." and if I got any checks in the mail just return them to GCU.

Okay, I get that you don't want to stend the cash that you are being provided for finicial aid...You'll end up paying for it one way or another. So I'm finishing my classes...no problems. I finish my last class. No problems. A month after I finished my last course I attempt to request an official transcript to continue my education at a physical university near me...Problems.

According to my account 3 weeks after my last class with my account balance of zero up until that point shows that the school issued me a check for over $2,000. So it claims I owe GCU over $2,000. What?!

It won't allow me to submit a request for official transcripts because I have a high account balance!

So I called and they said "Yeah, huh, that is weird." But of course they couldn't do anything about it on that day, "We'll look into this and call you back first thing tomorrow." Guess what? NO call. I called and they said well we have not started an official investigation yet..."you know the finicial department is really busy" Mmmm okay. Another day goes by...nothing. Not even an update. I call to check and they tell me my adviser is out of the office and since there wasn't a "ticket entered or any notes in the system" they couldn't help me.

Bottomline:

It's been over a week now, and they openly admit that it was their mistake and that there is nothing that I can do to fix or change anything....but still I am being punished for their mistakes! I may miss the deadline for another college due to mistakes that GCU made and they are doing nothing to fix the problem!

Stay away from this college. They are for profit and all they care about is your money. The classes were a joke. If you just want to pay for a piece of paper then maybe it's right for you. If you actually want to learn and be treated like a person rather than a sucker with a dollar sign on your head go somewhere else.
