I contacted Good Time Stove Company in November 2021 and spoke with Sara Wenona, aka the stove princess and daughter of Richard M. Richardson, the apparent owner of Good Time Stove Company regarding an 1890's Glenwood Sunny Stove they had in stock as listed on thier website.
I made it clear at the time that it would be several months before I could actually purchase the Stove...but I wanted to inquire about it and a possible deposit. Sara advised me that I could make a $500.00 deposit that would give me a first right of refusal on this particular stove. In December 2021 / January 2022 I spoke with Richard Richardson and he accepted the 500.00 deposit via credit card and advised me that he would have the chrome pieces of the stove sent out for replating. The stove was priced at $3850.00 as is. To gave it converted to gas, a new oven box and new control panel installed, the rust removed and cast iron refurbished ..and the stove to be restored to museum quality it would cost an additional $3,500.00. I had thought I would be able to send payment in this amount by March of 2022, but I made no garuantee of this, hence the reason for providing $500.00 so that I would recieve "First Right of Refusal" should someone else wish to purchase the stove.
In April/May of 2022 I did contact Richard Richardson by voice mail and advise that I was still interested in the stove and asked him to return my call. He did not.
May 21, 2022 when I contacted the Good Time Stove Company and advised them that I was ready to write a check for payment in full on the stove, Sara responded via email to advise they has sold the stove. She said since they had not heard from me they assumed I was no longer interested in the stove. Sara indicated that she hoped I was not too disappointed, however it was basically my fault if I was. She suggested that of I was still interested in purchasing an antique stove from them they had many others in stock. I responded indicating that yes I was disappointed considering I had given them $500.00 to be contacted if someone else was considering purchasing that stove, and once they had sold it no one contacted me to return my $500.00...but yes I still wanted a stove and asked her to send pictures of what they had available.
After no response for several days I called and left a voice mail message for Richard Richardson indicating I was ready to purchase a stove and summarized what Sara had told me happened. Richard returned my call right away and offered to sell me a Glenwood F stove from the same Era. This time however had already been converted to electric..so for the compromise of not having a gas stove..he discounted $500.00. After receiving his email with the pictures of the stove we spoke on the telephone. The price with the discount would be $7,250.00...he assured me the oven box and control panel would be replaced with new ones, we discussed whether the plating should be nickel or brass, I requested nickel, to which he said he would get those pieces out to be done immediately.
I had to wait several days for an invoice to be emailed ...and foolish me ..taking him at his word that the parts would be replaced and the nickel replated ..did not think anything about that being specified on the invoice. We had discussed all this at great length and he had given me his assurances over the telephone.
I immediately wrote the check and he cashed it the first week of June 2022.
In an email he advised me that the stove would be ready in 6 - 8 weeks.
After several emails and messages, Richard Richardson finally responded to me saying that my stove would be ready by the end of September. At the end of October, beginning of November, after having to leave another message and emails, he finally responded that he was sorry, he had been overwhelmed, but my stove would be ready by the end of November.
I received the stove December 29. 2022.
We uncoated it on the sidewalk with the shipping company representatives help. We were so excited to finally recieve our stove, restored to museum quality. Our excitement quickly turned to disappointment. I still have not stopped crying. The oven box was not replaced, the control panel was not replaced, the nickel was not replated, the bolts required to put the back onto the stove were not there, the oven racks were used and dirty, the heating element was not replaced. There is a residue of rust inside the oven box and on one of the cook top plates. Now, Richard Richardson did send pictures for my approval before he shipped the stove, however, none of this could be seen in the pictures.
Basically, it appears as though he spray painted the stove black and sent it off. Maybe he cleaned it up some, but the control knobs and electric cord and plug have a greasy feel to them, so not a very good job if he did clean it up any.
I am going to tell anyone what to do. I will just tell you this man knew that we restored our kitchen this summer and hired and electerian to do rewiring all based around this stove. He promised me I was going to be very happy with it when I recieved it, all knowing that he did not do the work he promised would be done, all after having had payment in full of $7750.00 for 6 months (this includes the initial $500).
Of course I can not afford an attorney in his state to sue him. He did not return my husband's phone call after he left a message the day we recieved the stove, and he probably never will. We don't even know if the stove works. We asked Richard Richardson several times to please send a picture of the pigtail so our electrician could purchase and install the correct outlet, but after his repeated promise that he would send a picture of it, he never did and we had to wait until the stove arrived to schedule the electrician.
This man Richard Richardson has stolen from me the joy of having the stove and my faith in humanity.I also believe he has stolen several thousand dollars from me by not replacing the parts of the stove he assured me he would, or having the nickel replated.
I write this report hoping you will not allow him to do the same to you.
