I contacted attorney Brooke Goff in November of 2019. I had been corresponding with her on the status of filing my case and she was finally ready to file it the beginning of March. I hadn't heard from her and August 2020 came around. I understood that there could be delays because of Covid but she never contacted me to let me know there was a delay or to let me know if there was anything I could be doing to speed up the status of my case. I found out from her that the case had never even been filed pre covid, and she finally told me that if I wanted the case to be filed and move along at a quick pace that filing it under my name instead of anonymously like we spoke about would be an option. I decided on filing under my name and was told that I would hear from her in approximately three weeks.
Every time I contacted this woman to let her know I had signed a document she needed and to confirm receipt , or to ask about the status of my case, I had to text her and call her office 2-3 times to get a response. At one point she didn't respond until a month later. Anyways, I had not heard from her in seven weeks and I told her I was going to find another lawyer if my case still wasn't filed. She responded and said that she told me that she had told me she would get back to me in "approximately three weeks", as if seven weeks is approximate to three! She then told me that the statute of limitations had not expired with my case (I had another 16 years until it did) , as if to say that there was no rush in filing the case.
I took that as meaning she could file the case whenever she wanted, and she did not clarify any differently. How about filing the case in a timely manner to make the client happy! She then told me that if I wasn't happy with her as a lawyer that perhaps I should find another lawyer.
So now after a year of waiting for my case to even be filed, and after she has caused a large part of the delay, she is telling me to go find another lawyer instead of saying "sorry it's taken this long I've been super busy and I'll get on it right away". I was so disgusted with her egocentric attitude, as if I should just be happy that she is filing the case at all for me, that I wanted to write a review about this lawyer. I wasted a year speaking to her.
I have the documents and texts to prove how long she had been working on my case and in the texts you can see that I constantly had to message this lawyer to get a response from her. It should only take a day or two to get a response from any professional, not a week or a month! and it should not take a whole year to file a case whether covid is going on or not! I spoke to another lawyer who said that even with covid, taking the first step to file a case ensures that you have a place in line and cases will be heard in the order that they were filed. Miss Goff was making every excuse why she couldn't file my case, including saying that my case would be "backlogged" if she were to file when I had requested. Just because covid has caused a delay in the processing of cases doesn't mean a lawyer should not file a case to keep a placeholder for that case to be heard.
Miss Goff was probably too overworked and instead of telling me the truth she came up with different excuses. The professional thing for her would have been to say "hey I am just too busy with cases, I think you should find another lawyer to handle your case" and to have told me that from the beginning, not waited until a year has passed and I have been waiting on this case to be filed.
