I run a consumer show. This company mined my web site to contact my exhibitors and offer to sell them a list of 9,000 of my attendees for $1,000. They don't have a list of my attendees to sell. Nobody has it. Worse, their solicitations also undermined the faith in the confidentaility agreements that our exhibitors and attendees rely on.
I have as evidence the emial correspondences that they conducted with my exhibitors to get the $$$ out of them.
I was contacted by their Sales guy to purchase a list of attendees for an upcoming tradeshow. After making bank transfer, they said the list would be ready in 3-4 days which is very odd considering that they told me exactly how many names were on the list. I waited for a week and still did not receive anything.
