Global Discovery Vacations Reviews
It's a bait and switch. My wife and I attended one of their seminars, and asked two specific questions. The salesman lied to our faces. When I contacted my phone rep (a different, very polite young man) to discuss a vacation, he explained that if I had read the fine print on the contract I would realize the sale's rep was "inaccurate". He gave me a number to call at Global's HQ to get my money back. HQ refused to allow me to cancel, despite the fact that they hadn't provided a single service. Avoid these people like the plague.
I got stuck into this scam. Global Discovery Vaction invited me to a membership review. It turns out they want to sell a me a website upgrade. I already paid in full for their garbage Vacation package, now they want to steal more money from me by telling me they have a new website that has more condos, the one that have needs to be upgrade and I have to agree for a $6000 website upgrade. They explained to me that the new website is not theirs, it's for conglomerate therefore they have nothing to do with it, if I want accesss to more condos, I have to upgrade for $6000 more, I refuse. I bought this garbage in 2012 and it's really hell to find a place to go, you can not go where you want to go, they raised the membership fee from $389 to $410 and to use the week of vacation (that is if you are lucky enough to find a place to go) they raise the fee from $165 to $170.
This is to call attention to a vacation membership company that engages in questionable consumer and information privacy practices. The company is Global Discovery Vacations. If you receive an invitation to one of their meetings/seminars, please be careful . Ask pointed questions regarding the length of membership, hidden costs, ability to opt out of your membership, the ways they will use your personal information and their marketing practices.
My wife and I attended one of their meeting over 20 years ago. We signed up for a membership but discovered that there were caviots that would result in higher costs. We notified the company that we wanted to cancel our membership. The company told us we could not cancel but could suspend our membership; in essence the membership is for life.
Over the years we have renewed our objections to our information remaining in their data base and on their marketing list. After posting comments on various consumer sites about this company, I received a call from them (this was several years ago). They agreed to “cancel my membership and delete our information” and I thought that had been don until I received a marketing letter from them that began “Dear Member”.
Like the Mafia, these guys will use the membership process to gain a strangle hold on you and your information. Although their methods has not cost me additional money, only God knows how they have been using (and possibly selling) our information.
We want nothing to do with this company so why do they want to hold our information hostage? We can’t force them to engage in ethical business practices but we can warn you to “beware!”
