I was helping a contractor who needed help desperately for painting apt's and common hallways. it was around the turnover season for the student housing in Madison. The need was great and I did all that I could to help this contractor.
I spent at least two to three weeks painting into the wee hours of the morning to meet deadlines and to coordinate workers for painting the apt's. It was hectic, tiring, and unorganized kaos. A dispute with the contrator was mentioned from others.
Apparently two other painter's were in the process of taking Allen to court, the contractor who hired all of us. I did not come to realize what was going on while Allen assured us that it was all nonsense for nonpayment for work that was done.
I was told by Allen that this was his biggest contract of his career as a painter, it was worth thousands. As Allen tried to fund the project for materials to keep it going it was essential to continue receiving work from the property owners.
He was the big man on campus who had to sell one of his vehicles to pay for supplies and others who were not really painters but needed the cash and were allowed to sleep in dorm rooms while they partied all night as well as Allen himself.
The two buildings they call the towers were in the proccess for re-renting to students. In the meantime I personally met Allen one morning after he was up most of the night and bragged about how much fun he had playing golf with the office manager and then had drinks with him.
What disturbs me most of all is that Allen knew what he was doing to screw people over and continued to do so after two gentleman were in the process of taking Allen to court. I talked with the two workers and it was confirmed on ccap that they had filed a small claims report against Allen. The work was done and I had not seen any money from Allen.
After i had filed for a judgement of $3,041.50 I have yet to collect it. I haven't had the money to hire an attorney and it was too stressful to pursue it at that time. With hopes to collect lost revenue I reluctantly moved on. This was in 2013 when I badly needed the money and was looking forward to getting some bills paid up.
As a painting contractor myself back then I worked with many a customer who paid me and always on time. The one person I least expected to screw me over was another contractor. I had Allens phone number for his personal cell but have misplaced it since and there is no phone number to call when searching his business online.
The first and foremost detailed business transaction anyone can do and should do is get everything and anything in writing before you give it your all to try and help someone. I always had a quote printed out for each and every customer I had serviced except for this one guy, never again, it was the only time I was misled for any job in ten years!
