If GIS reports incorrect information and you loose a job offer over it. Talk to an attorney. They have been sued 3 times for this practice.
There has been a few class action lawsuits. GIS lost. I'm not sure why the USPS would renew a contract with a company that has been sued and lost this many times, for reporting incorrect information. They must know someone in order to get the contract.
I've applied with USPS. I spoke with an attorney, before GIS started the background check. I have nothing in my background. So I expect my background to come back clean. I have an attorney, if it does not.
They are only allowed to check your background 5 years back in this state. That is per my attorney. I am still patiently waiting. I have been hired. If I loosed a job over incorrect information. I am most certainly going after them. If i am not working i will have nothing better to do any way.
Aplied for a job at Smiths grocery store and was honest about my criminal history. They hired me and after a 2 week training period I was assigned to a store. They then did a swab drug test and sent it to GIS. It came back as positive for cocaine but negative for oxycodone that is prescribed by my doctor. I asked for a retest but GIS stood by there result even when I told them about my prescriptions. My doctor sends me for periodic blood tests and I always test positive for oxycodone and not cocaine. The oxycodone is prescribed to me for a neck injury from a car accident but it has no impact on my job performance as I take them to sleep well. I was then told Smiths would not continue my employment even though I was performing my duties. Now I am unemployed and lost a job I tried to get for years all because of GIS mistake and not wanting to give me another chance to prove them wrong. The irony of the whole ordeal is for 7 years I have only shopped at Smiths because of thier customer service and I feel that this is what I do best only to have an outside agency fail in that matter.
GIS is a deliberately negligent organization. They did a background check on me for a new job, Sonya Hopkins worked my case, she's belligerent and can't form a sentence. She contacted my current employer for employment verification when I said I did not want them to contact my current employer. I didn't end up getting the job with the new company, and the actions of GIS ended my career with my current company. I notified her supervisor and the sales representative. I've gotten no response. Terrible organization that can't perform their ONE job function correctly.
