Wood Residential / Gateway Lakes has been in the process of not renewing tenents leases due to upgrades. We were told our lease would not be renewed and that we could move into a renovated apartment for $300 more a month or we could get out. We were only given 2 1/2 months notice and they demanded a 30 day notice from us for a move out date. First of all an increase of $300 a month is outrageous. Period. We are not gaining any additional sq. footage and the upgrades are fake loud wood flooring, a light in the dining room, new faucet, and cabinets. Cheap stuff for that kind of monthly increase. We cannot afford a $300 / mo increase and neighbors going through the same thing are feeling forced out. This whole horrible experience has been extremely stressful. Moving is expensive and we have had to come up with $3,700 to move (down payment, movers, truck, gas, supplies, etc.). What would have been the right thing to do is for Gateway Lakes to have given us a heads up back when we renewed our lease in 2015.... not to spring this on us and make us scramble to find a new place to live and come up with money that we didn't have. Many many neighbors in the same boat are extremely upset. The more exposure to what this greedy horrible place is doing to people, the better. And the grounds are filthy, hallways look horrible and are dirty, the outside windows have never been cleaned, there is dog waste not picked up, people coming and going, and people dumpster diving. My point being this is not a luxury community.
