I bought a Subaru from Gary that he had rebuilt the motor on and provided a 1 year/12,000 mile warranty at his shop OR ANY reputable shop (since I lived out of town). Within the first day of having the car the radiator needed to be replaced, which came out of my pocket. Within 10 days of having the car it ended up being towed back to his shop due to a failed crank shaft, which took him a month to fix. He told me I could come pick it up cause it was running great, the next day the check engine light came on and when I had it diagnosed at another shop it was found to have an internally leaking head gasket from not milling the head when he replaced it, along with broken and missing bolts, he did not clip everything back together in the engine, used NON OEM Parts, As well as he zip tied on a part cause he broke the bolt.... The other shop recommended replacing the engine as a whole due to the previously(shoddy) work done, as they wouldn't be able to warranty their own work if they tried to fix it, with all the previous work done.
They even informed me that they were absolutely astonished when they opened the hood, as they couldn't believe that ANY mechanic would allow that to leave their shop and that another mechanic in his shop had heard of Gary's horrible work through friends.
Gary will not honor the warranty as he is trying to say the head gaskets will only fail if the car is ran while overheating, therefore it is not covered under the warranty.... Unfortunately head gaskets can also fail for numerous other reasons, such as the mechanic not getting the head milled when he should have OR the mechanic not rebuilding the engine correctly... He was the last person to open the head on the car to fix the crankshaft, and all the work on the vehicle that was supposedly warrantied (Which is documented on the bill of sale), yet the next day when things go wrong he will not stand by his work/word or even offer to correct his mistakes.
I suggest that anyone who is thinking about going to him, to do more research on Gary and go somewhere else otherwise you will be taken advantage of, lied to, ripped off and possibly lose more money to hire lawyers. The car that I purchased from him is parked, unable to drive, and has only been driven a total of 10 days out of 3 months becuase of all the issues we have had with his "repairs". I just hope that I can save someone else from this kind of stress and that he eventually will be shut down for how he treats and takes advantage of people. Honestly his last name says it all... SWINDLER, truly what he is...
